The May meeting of the Glen Elm Women’s Institute was held at the home of Mrs. R. Mitchell, Essex Avenue. on May 13th. Last minute arrangements were made for the Daffodil Tea to be held in Wrixon Hall on May 30. At the close of the business meet- ing. a social evening was enjoy- ed by all. Refreshments were served by Mrs. R. Stickley and Mrs. R. Frazer. The June meet- ing of the institute is scheduled to be held at the home of Mrs. R. Craine, 304 Paliser Crescent. This enjoyable musicale was arranged by Mrs. Wright Mor- row, and the guests invited by Mrs. Ray Jackson. a former mem- ber of the Leaside Music Group. In addition to the three fine cello solos by Mr. Tees, the “Father and Daughter" perform- ance won hearty applause for their rendition of “Sweet Hour of Prayer". Mr. Tees' daughter, Mrs. R. Crozier was on a visit from Sydney, Nova Scotia. At the conclusion of their fine program, the guests were thanked by Mrs. Dickson Miller, and presented with bouquets of spring flowers. On Saturday and Sunday, May 10 and 11. the 3rd Richmond Hill Scout Troop took part in the “Scout Jamboree of the Air". be- ing the first of its kind ever held. The basis of the jamboree was to give the scouts an opportunity to speak over the air waves to scouts in other countries. The contacts were made through the co-oper- ation of the amateur radio oper- ators, whose equipment and ex- perience made this air jamboree pessible. Approximately ten contacts were made by the troop, the far- thest being Porto Rico, and the closest Willowdale. Many calls were received from around the world, although no direct con- tacts were made.
