The local represent tives to last week’s track and fi d trials Feeling that play had sufiic- iently improved, the team moved up another league. Coach this year is popular Stan Ransom Jr. Stan, well known from his many years as a player and for his ab- ility as a team organizer. The team has a hard core of players held over from previous years. Coach Ransom and right fielder Bob McKee were on the original team sponsored by Shep- pard and Gill. Sil Stefian joined five years ago. Joe and Lorne McLean and Gord Banton are now four year members. In 1954 the team left the Maple league and entered the York-Peel Softball League. The team’s best years to date have been in 1956 when they won the York-Peel Inter- mediate C championship and in 1957 when they were run- ners up. The team has currently won four and lost four. In the statistics department, eight of the 14 team members are married. The average age is 25. ranging from 21 to 34. Most of the players live locally. Their ex- perience has been gained in dif- ferent leagues around the city and one player spent a season in the Kirkland Lake area. A breakdown is as follows: â€" Stan Ransom â€"â€" one of the or- iginal players. Stan organized the team eight years ago. He now acts as coach and substitute third baseman. This marks the first year that a local ball team has been entered in the newly organized Markham Township Intermediate Softball League. The Richmond Hill Dynes Jewellers are sponsored by well known Yonge St, business- man Vern Dynes. The team has had a busy time since its inception eight years ago. The original team was sponsored by Sheppard and Gill Lumber Company and entered in the Maple Di‘s- trict Softball League. Bob McKee â€" 315) a member of the original team. Good all- round player. Played catcher, second base and this year is hold- ing the right field position. He is fast on the base lines and is having a good year hitâ€"wise. Bob lives in Thornhill and as a re- sult he missed last season be- cause of the residen: ruling. Sil Steflan â€"â€" home town boy. plays catcher and shortstop. This year he is playing catcher. Sil got his experience in Toronto and Kirkland Lake hardball lea- gues. Bill Jackson â€" a right handed pitcher with good control. Bill knows how to pick the corners and how to deliver a tricky change of pace. He lives in Glen- brae Subdivision. This is his sec- ond year with the team. His rec- ord shows that he has won two and lost three as of June let. George Ward â€" now living in Glenbrae subdivision This is his first year pitching for the Dynes Before he was sidelined three years ago because of a knee in- jury Ward played in the High Park League and was to have moved up to the Beaches League, A conventional right handed pit- cher, George is improving each game and could wind up the sea- son the best in the league. His :Dyned 1am Wdoued 71/) 30 W/COMQ flame 'aling 440 yard relay (time 43.1 sec). and third in the mxle relay (4 minutes 3 seconds time). Although neither runner made the'team both were among the final choices of the judges. When a choice is made more than just the day‘s performance is 'con- sidered, past records and versa- tility are all taken into account. The local Rotary Club assisted both athletes and Coach William Babcock in making the trip. The Richmond Hill Track and Field Club is sending 39 mem- bers to St. Lamburt, Quebec, June 26-28 to compete in the Eastern Canadian Championships. Tom Easton â€" now in his third season for Dynes. He comes from Toronto and is now living in Bev- erley Acres. Besides being good record to date is one loss and two wins. Ward is also a good hitter. Ron Meraska â€" lives in Glen- brae Subdivision. This season he at the plate he is an excellent utility man. He has played most of the infield spots and is now playing first base. “Tom is the ‘Character’ of the team, what- ever Easton can’t think of Mer- aska can" says coach Ransom. is playing second base. He is an excellent infielder, has lots of speed, thinks fast and is a great playmaker. Jack Morkin â€" playing his first'year with the Dynes in the shortstop spot. His experience is reflected through his playing. Jack is one of the few players who have the uncanny sense of knowing lust where to be and when. His hitting has not been as good this season as in previ- ous years. Moe Williamson â€" comes from Newtonbrook to play third base and utility catcher. He played for Dynes in 1956 but missed last year because of the resident rul- ing. Moe learned his ball in North York and Toronto Leagues. He won the batting title in the York-Peel League in 1956. Pete Yawni â€" has been side- lined by injuries. A left-hander, he plays first base. Pete is a ter- rific fielder and ball handler. full of hustle and spirit. This is his first season for the Dynes. Dale Watts â€" one of the ‘youngsters’ on .the team, the left fielder hails from out Wood- bridge way. Before coming to the Dynes this year Dale played hardball in Stouffville. He is a left.handed hitter and a good lead ofi man. Lorne McLean â€" the second installment of the McLean bro- thers. He plays centre field. Not a flashy fielder, Lorne plays a sure but fast field. He is an aver- age 'hltter. Joe McLean â€" plays the key- stone sack. Played in Toronto be- fore coming to the Dynes. Joe plays a steady game. hits well. Gord Eamon â€" now Richmond Acres, Gord his ball in Toronto. His asset is his strong arm curatre throwing. â€" Photo by Thomson living in learned greatest and ac- ’1 er Aurora â€" 200410010005451311 Dynesâ€" ' AURORA WINS HOME AND HOME SERIES Aurora took a home and home series from Richmond Hill Dynes last week. by scores of 9 to 4 and 13 to 8.
