TU. 4-2380 Richmond Hill County Refuses To Pay 53000 Grant Town Newmarket Cleaning, Repairing, Recoring Free Pickup-Delivery Night Work by Appointment We welcome to Headford, Ron Leuschner and his wif and young son, Stevie, who will occupy Ron’s grandmother's house for the sum- mer, while details of their own new home in the Hill are being worked out. No action was taken by York County Council on a request from New;..arket for a grant of $3,000 The request was made to cover a portion of the cost for the pro- posed expansion of the police quarters. “The county is under no oblig- ation to supply a‘police court, or police cells,” reported the warden and county commissioner when informed that Magistrate 0. S. Hollinrake was interested in tak- ing over all the Newmarket Town Hall for court and police work. “Police courts and the policing of same are direct responsibility of the Provincial Attorney-Gen- eral,” they said. Headford Sunday School prim- ary boys. David Terry. Bobby Lee, Billy Clarkson and Carl Morrison had a delightful picnic at Wilcox Lake last Wednesday as guests of Mrs. Acreman and Lorraine. The latter's special guests were San- dra Evans and Russellene Gray of Elgin Mills. Mrs. Wm. Wellman returned on Friday after almost a week with Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Reaman and their family at the cottage at South River. We wish Mrs. Well- man birthday greetings (late by now) for July 9. And a very happy birthday to Brenda Wellman, who will be five on Monday. Headford W.A. had to postpone their bake-sale on Friday after- noon on account of rain; but held a successful sale on Saturday morning. Many thanks to Victoria Square W.A. for the privilege, and to our own W.A. for the don- ations. Sincere thanks also to Mrs. Binnington who invited those of us who were there, over to the parsonagefor a “coiIeepreak.” A Reeve J. Luck, of Newmarket, explained that the additional space was required because the town is handling the county's police work. Newmarket consid- ered one-half of the cost shOuld be borne by the county. Mr.’ and Mrs. Albert Pasco were Dominion Day guests of the Hal Acremans. Mrs. Binnington and Mrs. Acre- man met with Mrs. Alf Miller in her home last Thursday afternoon to prepare some of the work for “Crafts” for the senior girls at the Vacation School this coming week. All Headford children from four to fourteen years are invited to join with the others next Mon- day morning at the Church at nine. Parents of those attending from Headford are asked to send along cookies on Wednesday, and also to see that any pre-school youngsters have a card bearing their name and age. I After the extreme heat, fol- lowed by rain and wind. the Joyces and the Rumbles had very good days for their respective re-unions on Saturday and Sun- day. Miss Emma Barker Was a week- end guest of Mrs. William Well- man. What a welcome rain that was last Friday! Now many lawn- mowers that have been sneer-- ing at their owners will have to get down to work. Parched lawns, brown and dry as tinder, with only the weeds showing green. have made a remarkable come- back. and are now demanding at- tention. Grain crops too are look- ing excellent, though the rain was hardly in time to help the hay. Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Johnson and Mary-Ellen, with Mr. Lew Graham, left last Thursday for a month-long motor trip to the West.
