John W. Brudshck COUNCIiLOR : 7 91,54 ;’ S TO THE CITIZENS OF RICHMOND HILL The future growth of Richmond Hill is of vital concern to all of us. To leave this development to chance or to individuals is to store up troubles for the future. Wehave some evidence of these troubles with us now - narrow streets. haphazard building, bad drainage and lack of parks. Safe-guarding this development is the responsibility of the Planning Board and Council. If studies now under‘ way indicate that the Town can and should expand, I believe we must employ a full time Planning Director and keep a close control on all development. Above all, we must not be pres- sured into premature ex’pansion. I favour the development of the Pond Area and our “Parkettes” throughout the Town. I believe we Bhould acquire a new park site on the East side of Town. This coming year I regard as one of “house- cleaning". that is. the completion of the many pro- jects now under way, the correcting of drainage prob- lems. the paving of all dirt roads and making a start on a sidewalk construction program. Next year I hope to see the Church Street Park developed to its maximum potential in line with the studies which we have made this year. As a Professional Engineer. I have been able to use my knowledge in the service of the Town this year and will continue to do so in the future if you should see fit to return me to Office in 1959. FOR PROGRESSIVE GOVERNMENT RE-ELECT Want to meet Georgie the Plaza alligator? You can if you dro'p into the Plaza Aquarium that opens Monday, December 8, in the Richmond Heights Plaza. The store is owned by Mr.'Ad- rian Hankin, just recently arriv- ed here‘ from England. Mrs. Moira Williams is the manager, and her husband Stewart is work- ing on sales and purchasing. Mr. Williams is a bionomic Ic- thytheologist by profession. This means he has an understanding or knowledge of fish as specifically related to keeping them in an ar- tificial states He acquired this knowledge while attending a smale University in London, Eng- lan . Previously. tropical fish have just been a hobby with Mr. Wil- liams. He did have a small busi- ness in Vancouver before coming here. Plaza Aquarium Opens To-day With Alligators & Exotic Fish When asked why the business has been-brought to Richmond Hill, Mr. Williams replied “We came here because the town is a coming community; because it is a local community: and because we were sick and tired of the city. When Mr. Hankin arrived three -weeks ago after several ~trips around the world examining trop- ical and exotic fish in their natur- al habitats, we decided to open our business here." uu. u...,......._. ..__ The store will carry general lines of pet supplies with emphas- is on tropical and exotic fish, their supplies and equipment. There will be no dogs or cats. Later (in the spring) a reptilarium will be added including snakes, alligators, desert animals and cab- t1. Last week “The Liberal" car- ried the story of the tragic death of Robert Lott of Be‘verley Acres in a truck-train crash. Late R. F. ,Lott Funeral Friday That story said Mr. Lott was on his way home to celebrate his eighth wedding» anniversaxjy, and pérhaps sion. Upon checking further, “The Liberal" learned that Mr. Loti was not due to come home until very late on the evening of his death. As part of his job, being a distributor for a Wurlitzer com- pany, he made Weekly service calls on Tuesday evenings of each week. 0n the evening before his death. Mr. Lott had given his wife a diamond ring: the one sh:- didn’t get eight years ago. They celebrated their anniversary one day ahead of time. When he left his home for work the next morn- ing. MLKLOH told his wife he would not be seeing her until late that night. Contrary to the story printed in “The Liberal" and elsewhere. there was not a party in progreSS when Mrs. Lott learned of her husband's tragic death. A neigh- bour had dropped over to baby- sit for Mrs. Lott while she was out attending an executive meetâ€" ing of the local ratepayers' assoc-- iation. As it happened. there were no service calls for Mr. Lott to make that night. so he was unexpect- edly on his way home when the accident occurred. It was when she returned home from that meeting that she learn~ ed 01' the accident. “The Liberal“ joins with the people of the community in ex- tending sincere sympathy to the bereaved family. The funeral of the late Mr. Lott was held at Lansing. last Fridav afternoon and interment followed at York Cemetery. “Toss your fur coat in the back seat and hop in, Macâ€" I’m going as far as Casper.” DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH TWP. You will see Climbing Perch that can leave the water and live on land for several hours; Archer fish that shoot their food down out of the air with water pellets; the famous Flying Fish from Mandalay (fresh 'water variety); fish that bear their young alive; fish very high on the plane of evolution as well as those that have remained unchanged for' two and oneAhalfvmilliOn. years; and you will even see the famous Pirhana from the Amazon river in South America, the fish that lives on warm-blooded meat. In price, the fish will range all the way from 250 Goldfish to a $75 Discus from the Amazon All fish are kept in quarantine in the store for two to three weeks before sale, and are guarâ€" anteed for one week after sale. As far as Mr. Williams knows, the Plaza Aquarium is the only store in the business to make such a guarantee. __ Being a community minded in- dividual. Mr. Williams said “If anyone wants to put on a display in a school or. library or church, we will loan out a complete setup free of charge. And because we want people to be our friends, we will always have a hot cup of coffee here at the store for anyâ€" one who cares to drop in." rich.
