March 9th. Miss Clark presented an over- all picture of how the earlier health programs were gradually welded together into an interna- tional health service by the Unit- ed Nations and that the World Health Organiation is the culmin- ation of a century of efforts to- .ward health co-operation. She pointed out. that formerly sick- ness was considered a purely per- sonal misfortune and govern- ments .had little concern for health matters. When epidemics were prevalent, countries impos- ed quarantine laws. The meas- ures were often cruel. caused hardships and shipping delays to ports. In 1851 these ineffective regulations gave birth to a series of international conferences to set up a world wide health or- ganization, but it was not until the turn of the present century that a universal method of‘pro- tection against epidemics was agreed upon. The International Health Organization was formed in Paris, France, in 1909. W.H.O. Dedicated To Bettering World Health Everywhere Rev. J. F. H. Morris of Aurora United Church opened the meet- ing with a prayer and the visitors to Maple were welcomed by Vil- lage Trustee Andrew Snider. Dr. J. T. Phair. Senior Consulant, Department of Health and former Deputy Minister of Health in the Province of Ontario. introduced Piss Clark, R.N.. of King City. Following the first world war, the health organization of the League of Nations was establiLh- ed. It started the international standards for vaccine sera and certainyimportant drugs and un- dertook studies of nutrition and housing. as well as diseases and CATTLE OF' REGISTERED AND GRADE HOLSTEIN VACCINATED DAIRY CA’I'I‘LE, HEREFORD HEIFERS AND STOCKERS, BROOD SOWS.
