Mrs. Wilfred Turner and assistants Mrs. Bob Hood and Mrs. H. Bauthus have planned an interesting afternoon for the children and their parents from 2:00 pm. to 4:00 pm. Euchre players won‘t want to miss the card party to be held in Buttonville Hall on Monday after- noon of next week. Buttonville W.I. members are sponsoring the party to aid the Retarded Chi'ldâ€" ren‘s fund. Play win commence at 2:00 p.m. If you have been hearing snatches of s'bng. a good beat on the piano. the sound of tapping feet, it's the Junior Farmers practising for the Variety Show which they will present in But- tonville on the evening of Sat- urday. April 25. Working with the young people are Miss Dorothy Hood who is doing a king-sized job at the piano; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wright who are full of ideas; and Mrs. F. H. Leef. It is a late spring indeed. with no thought of venturing onto the land this week. The birds are here to stay apparently. but we have still to hear our first singing. and only the occassional field is turning green. We note that the Myers Farm at the north-west corner of Finch‘s and Don Mills Road has been sold for an amount in ex- cess of a quarter of a million. The Explorer group of-the Vic- toria Square Charge was enter- tained by V. S. W.M.S. ladies at Victoria Square Church on Satâ€" urday afternoon of last week. along with members of the Mis- sion Band of that church. The Explorers. under the direction of Mrs. F. Maw and Mrs. E. Storey presented a typical Explorer programme, with stories based on their mission study told by members of the group, while other group members were dressâ€" ed as the characters in the story. Local girls taking part were Pat- ricia Patterson. Marcelle Storey and Susan Harrott. A point of interest for the children was their special guest, Mrs. Ito. who is newly arrived from Japan, and :vyho dressed Charon MacDonald iii: an authentic Japanese cost- lume, with elaborate headdress. for the occasion. Following the meeting W.M.S. members served refreshments, and a sociallhour was enjoyed. On Sunday after: noon next, C.G.I.T. and Explorer groups will provide music at the afternoon W.M.S. service to be held at Victoria Square church. Rev. Muir. a missionary on fur- lough from Japan will be the guest speaker.. Brown's Corners Y.P.U. enter- tained young people from points of York Presbytery at a dance held in Buttonville Hall on Sat- urday evening of last week. The young people danced to recorded music, and were entertained by a music combo from Richmond Hill. After an evening of ,fun re- freshments were served. The W.I. met on Wednesday. last. Suggestions for next years programs included to bring1 current events back into the‘: monthly programs, review other year‘s suggestions to see if we are doing our best to carry them out; papers of interest used at meetings be typed and a serap- book compiled of them, be guests of other institutes in different dis- tricts where we could plan to visit historical sites or scenes of interest. These are but a few of .the suggestions made. A donation of $40.00 was made toward fur- nishing a room in the Dean House at Sharon. Open house is being held at the Ontario Hos- pital the last week in April. The local W.I. decided to attend on April 28. Mrs. Warner. a newcomer to the neighbourhood. spoke briefly on her hobby of 20 years â€" weaving. Mrs. C. Beynon had her newly finished quilt on display. as well as “Grandmother's Quilt Block Book’. Mrs. M. Beynon enjoys crocheting: Mrs. W. Mitchell is taking music lessons specifically for her own enjoyment. Mrs. Black-burn enjoys knitting and had on display the workmanship of her daughter. a heavy knit sweater, featuring Aberdeen cat- tle. Mrs. Chalk loves collecting articles and had several “horse brasses’, also two gowns. the tra- ditional muu-muu dresses of Hawaii. Mrs'Howard Chalk had a beautiful star design quilt on display, and Mrs. Pete Beckett some fine embroidery.
