A small show in entries was, no doubt, due to the weather, which does not always co-operate with flower shows. Nevertheless, the excellent qual- ity displayed, showed that some green thumbs can get results in spite of the weather. Mrs. Ernest Redelmeier, an accredited judge and local resident, judged the show and expressed a very fav- ourable opinion of the entries. Mrs. George Barker received the prize for decoratie arrangements and Mr. G. Longworth captured top honours in the specimen flowers. Culpitt, who has promised to give a prize of a piece of Royal Doulton china to the winner. Langstaff Baptist Church News On May 18th, the Young People R. Hill Horticultural Contribute To Beauty England, Ireland, Switzerland, Florida, California and Arizona. This was made possible by the excellent photography of the fol- lowing members, who had enjoy- ed these various trips and cap- tured the highlights by camera, to bring back to share with others: Mrs. G. Gurney, Mr. R. D. Little, Mr. D. Boyd, Dr. Wilson and Mr. Plewman. Mr. G. Longworth presided at the meeting and Mrs. W. J. Large, convenor of the show, introduced the judge, Mrs. E. Redelmeier. The Richmond Hill Horticultur- al Society are contributing and planting evergreens and annuals to the new library building. Also the properties of Richmond Hill churches will soon glow with a riot of colour. The morning service last Sun- day morning, May 10th, was tap- ed for broadcast on May 25th and will be heard in the evening at 8 o'clock over radio station CJRH. The ladies‘ Evening Mission Circle will hold their regular meeting May 14th in the church, but will be holding the follow- ing meeting on May 28th in the home of Mrs. Edith Michell, 453 Palliser Crescent, Richmond Hill. Mark Vaun Women’s Institute Mrs. C. Thirgood, Falrview Avenue, opened her home for the May meeting of the Mark Vaun Women‘s Institute. The retiring president, Mrs. R. Glassey. was in the chair, and the meeting open- ed with the singing of the Wom- en's Institute Ode and the read- ing of the Mary Stewart Collect. During the business period. further plans were made for the June tea to be held on June 20th at the home of Mrs. W. Thomp- son. Donations were made for the fish pond and members were ask- ed to bring an article for the par- cel post sale to the next meeting. Further plans were, made for en- tering the Markham Fair. A mo- tion was made to renew group membership in the Canadian As- sociation of Consumers. Several of the members are planning to attend the District Annual of the York East District on Thursday, May 14th, at Lake- view. Mrs. C. Clifford of Thornhill Branch was present to conduct the ceremony of installation of of- ficers for the coming year. Mrs. Clifford wished the branch every success in their work. For further in- formation watch the coming ev- ents column later on, W.A. The May meeting of the Carr- ville United Church Woman's As- sociation was held at the home of the president, Mrs. Jas. Will- iams on Wednesday afternoon, May 6. There were 15 ladies pres- ent. The members were espec- ially pleased to have Mrs. J. An- derson present, as she had not been able to attend the meetings for quite some time. The theme of the devotional part of the meeting was "Humility." Mrs. R. Kirk read .the scripture lesson from John 13, 1-15 and the explanation as found in the Topics for Worship booklet. Mrs. R. Middleton read a paper on “Christian Humility." Minutes and roll call followed, the secretary and corresponding secretary gave reports The June meeting will be at Mrs. E. Bone’s home, social convenors are Miss Sheppard and Mrs. D. Bone, scrip- ture by Mrs. J. Bushell and paper by Mrs. J. Baker. Several items of business were discussed, rug for the church aisle, catering for a wedding and the strawberry festival. Plans are to be completed at the June mee- ting for this event. Mrs. E. Bone and Mrs. J. Bushell assisted the hostess, Mrs. J. Williams with a tasty lunch. Margaret Williams assisted in ser- vmg. Attend Luncheon Mrs. Jas. Williams, president of Carrville United Church W.A., accompanied by Mrs. R. Middle- ton, attended the luncheon and fashion show at Thornhill United Church on Thursday, put on by all groups of their WA. Congratulations Janis Nicholls, nine year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. How- ard Nicholls, entered two classes in piano at the York Festival of Music at Woodbridge and came first in the class of 10 years and under, with eight competing; and second in a class of 15 under 11 years of age. Her selections were “Allegro in B Flat" and “A Sail- or Tune”. Congratulations Janis on your first try in competition. School News The Carrville public school children went to Woodbridge on Friday afternoon and sang in the York Music Festival for schools with less than 25 pupils.
