Smith In a closely fought competition, Brian Smith and Anne Hall em- erged winners in their respective classes in the second annual Rich- mond Hill Teenage Safe Driving Road-E-O. Sponsored jointly by the Rich- mond Hill Lions and Jaycees, the Road-E-O was held Monday. May 18, at the parking area in the Levendale Plaza. Under blue skies and a dry track, thevcontestants pitted their skills and safe driving knowledge in’ a written test, designed by Chief Robbins; clinical tests, ad- ministered by Labatt’s Breweries Limited, an a four stage field test of driving ability, in automo- biles supplied compliments of R. D. Little and 'Son Limited. The evening started shortly afâ€" ter 6 o’clock with a parade of cos- tumed children. The prize win- ners ineach age group were chos- en by a panel of four courageous jufies, Mrs. Ruth Castle, presi- dent of ‘Walter Scott Home and School Association, Deputy Reeve and Mrs. Tinker and the ever pop- ular Councillor Joe Paterson. In addition to cash awards for the first three winners in each division, the top ’drivers became the new holders of the Richmond Hill Police Safe Driving Trophies. The good people who helped to feed these ever-hungry kiddies deserve every credit for a well run job. To help defray the \coSts of run- ning an activity of this size, a draw was held for three prizes with tickets selling at one dollar each. The drawing of the tickets was handled by a young man named Wayn-e Snider. assisted by his dad. The only prize claimed up to this time was the third prize won by Mr. Hammond of Palister Crescent. The winning ticket number is 418137‘ and the second prize number is 418269. The hol- ders 'can collect their prizes at 271 Sussex Ave. The grand finale was of course the $250 fireworks display. Foster said he was not yellow. but the con- tact says he does not have to defend his belt for 10 days. The Jennings Brothers lost the first fall but came back strong with no fooling about to win the last two falls hands down. In the second bout with a little bit of trouble that he did not expect, Kenny Moncton downed a local Richmond Hill boy, Pa-l Greenfield, in 21 minutes of a 1- fall, 30-minute tlme limit bout. Next week we have a tag-team championship bout with the teams of the Jennings Brothers, the champions, putting their title up against the team of Billy Foster and Rip Ron Leonard. Billy Fos- ter said he has one title and is out for the second one. Ron Leonard and Billy Foster said they will crack the Sudbury Hard- rocks into little pieces. In the semi-final we will see in his first bout after returning from a wrestling tour in the US. A. and Mexico, Orro Morro who will come up against Gideon Gi~ deen, the fighting Irishman and former middleweight champion. plus twoother outstanding bouts. The first bout saw Len Hewitt down the up and coming Fred Hall at the 18-minute mark. Lawn Bowling Season Opening Thirty‘five lawn bowlers turn- ed out for the opening of the local season Monday afternoon. Greens were in good shape and players were welcomed by Club President Alex Clark. He extend- ed an invitation to all bowlers to take advantage of the local facili- ties. Greens will be available for bowling every night of the week. There will be special jitney tournaments every Monday and Thursday evening. Winner of the opening tourna- ment was skip Morley Hall and his rink of Mrs. Wheeler and Barry Brent. Second prize win- ner was skip Harry Selkirk with Jesse Russell and Dr. Farquhar- son.
