After a lingering illness, Mrs. Sam Cave passed away at her home in Maple on September 18, in her 74th year. Rev. H. B. Lin- deman conducted the funeral ser- vice in the Wright and Taylor Chapel where relatives and long- time friends gathered to pay their last respects. Burial was in King City 7 Cemetery. Mrs. Cave had been a highly esteemed resident of Maple for 35 years. She was born in Klein- burg and after her marriage to Samuel Cave lived for several years in the King City District. She was a quiet woman who de- rived much pleasure from her family and friends. The pallbearers were: Arthur Foster. David Julian. Lawrence Kefier, Roland Kefier, Verdun Gordon, George Reid. Mayor Kenneth W. Tomlin and members of Richmond Hill Town Council paid tribute to the splen- did service rendered by the mem- bers of the local Recreation Com- mittee when a report of the year's Activities was presented at Mon- day night’s council meeting. All members concurred in the words of the Mayor who said “we extend thanks to the committee for a splendid job during a rather dif- ficult summer.” BREAD FULL 24 OZ. SAM CAVE @bituary 39 Council also met the' need for additional support in view of the more-than-tripled registration for the town playground plan with $2,000. $300 and $150 were also channeled by council through this committee to meet expenses of the majorette corps and the boys' band, both sponsored by the pol- ice association. ' “The appointment of a munici- pal recreation committee sets up themachinery whereby a grant may be received from the pro- vince, through the Community Programme Branch of the Depart- ment of Education. Since this committee was inaugurated "the grant has increased steadily from $681.91 in August 1957 (after the first year of activity) to this year’s $2.400 (arrived at from the $600 maximum grant on maintenance plus $1,800 from the 33%% on salaries. The council grant has also kept pace with this increase until this year the committee re- ceived $4,600 in addition to the $2,400 grant. The 1959 budget estimates for the 22 activities associating them- seWes or sponsored by the Rec- reation Committee totalled $33,205. At that time we estimat- ed that the provincial grant on our 1959 leadership and main- tenance costs would total $3,027. Hoc- key last winter had a registra- tion of nearly 500; figure-skating, 200 when we add together the numbers involved in the police band, the majorettes, the soccer, track and field, Curtain Club, Teen Town, and Senior Citizens, we get a total of approximately 4.000. We would like to ’express appreciation to the many many people who give leadership training and instruction. a great proportion voluntary and at a cost to themselves to make this ex- tensive recreation not only pos- sible but flourishing. The subsidies requested by these groups totalled $13,225 when submitted to us. but were reviewed by us and reduced by $1,200 when we in turn submitted our budget to the Finance Com- mitee. As I have mentioned we were granted a total of $7,000 for our 1959 activities. A further revision of assistance to each group was then made.
