Milsted Phone Gormley 5201 GORMLEY At the suggestion of Mrs. Jack- son, the Home and School Assoc- iation have set aside $15.00 as a scholarship' for a grade 8 pupil each year. This scholarship is awarded to the most outstanding student of the year, not for marks alone but for the overall ability 0 fthe tudent and his co-operation with his teachers and fellow stu- dents. The cheque for $15.00 was awarded this year to Michael Red- dy. MichaeP and ‘his twin bro- ther Peter, both received their pins on Monday night. Vincent Reuter was not present as he has moved to Vancouver. Jos. Bonnici, David Davis and Bob Hammond were also absent for the presen- tation. All of the pupils have gone on to High School and Mr. Mar- tindale expressed the w}sh to see them carry on with the r educat- ion and receive‘graduation pins from High School and even Uni: versity. At the Executive meeting held after the last Home and School meeting, the executive decided to present a $5.00 cheque each month to the teacher whose class had the highest attendance of parents at the Home and School meeting. Last month the room count prize went to Mrs. Burke for her afternoon kindergarten class and when- room count Was averaged on Monday night, the afternOon kindergarten parents were once again, present in the majority so Mrs. Burke will re- ceive another $5.00 cheque. The Principal, Mr, A. Martin- dale, presented the graduates of 1959 Grade 8 pupils with their school pins and following are the names of the recipients - Marlene Barrington, Jim Lefler, Bonnie Lockhart, Michael Reddy, Pete'r Raddy, Vincent Beuter, Carol Wallace, Jos. Bonnici, David Dav- is, Bob Hammond. The monthly meeting of the Henderson Avenue Home and School Association was held on Monday night. Mrs. Mary Mc- Kenzie was back visiting us from Richmond Hill to where she and her family moved from Wood- ward Avenue a few weeks ago and acted as recording secretary in the absence of t regular sec- retary. Mrs. McKen ie was a very arduous worker in Home and School events and we shall miss her very much. Our loss is most certainly Richmond Hill’s gain. School News HIGHLAND PARK NEWS CORRESPONDENT: MRS. Dar- ley. ' Rev. A. E. Baker was in charge of the service at Carrville United Church when world communion was observed. He announced that the Rev. MacDonald would take over the Thornhill charge on No-- vember 15. Until then Rev. Baker will be the minister. Marnie Nesbitt will be 12 years old October 6; Ricky Darling, 13 years October 7; and Mark Kirk will be 10 on October 10.
