10 Mrs. Jack Seaton, wife of our popular local sports commentator, is in hospital badly stricken with polio- myelitis. All our wishes and prayers for Mrs. Seaton’s recovery go out to Jack and to members of the Seaton family. gun-J . - SPORT SPOTS â€" Has anybody not noticed what the Leafs are doing this year? After the long, lean years. it seems like manna straight from heaven to see an aggressive Leaf team burning up the league. Sure hope that it lasts and that chippy Carl Brewer learns to be as crafty as Doug Harvey of Montreal and stops getting stupid penalties. â€" SPORT SPOTS â€" Tommy Easton and wife Betty are playing host and hostess to Dynes Jewellers ball team next Saturday night at their home, 341 South Taylor Mills Drive. This wil be the club’s final get-together for this year and it is expected that club sponsor Vern Dynes and his wife will attend and help with the evening’s entertainment. â€" SPORT SPOTS â€"â€" Jack Morkin and his good wife have a brand new sparkling daughter to give them a grand total of five girls. What does a shortstop know about coaching a basketball team? Congratulations to the Morkins and a big hello to the new daughter. â€" SPORT SPOTS â€" Practices started this week for Minor Hockey Lea- gue teams. If you have not yet got your boy’s applica- tion in DO IT NOW, as once teams are formed it will be too late. Make sure that your boy isn’t one of the disappointed ones. â€"â€" SPORT SPOTS â€" Marian Munroe, the girl with Wings on her feet is still in training for the Olympic Trials. The fleet miss is now going to school in Toronto and will someday be a school marm. The way this girl works, she should be a really good teacher, if past performance means any- thing at all. â€" SPORT SPOTS â€" The Richmond Hill Bantam Team has already had two or more practice sessions and should be a good little club. In the first quarter, Richmond Hill took the lead as a terrific pass interception was cashed in as a touchdown with the con- version attempt being no good. Early in the second quarter, Quarterback Bruce Walker was lost to the team for the remain- der of the season with a broken ankle. Doug Lovell, a good defen- sive half went into the quarter- back slot and did a good job until he went out with torn hip muscles in the fourth quarter and is th:ough for the season.‘ Newmarket clinched the game by booting a single in the fourth quarter, after an unconverted TD in the third. Richmond Hill High School kicked a single but the point was disallowed as the head linesman ruled a no-yards penalty. Richmond Hill Soccer Team 15 â€" Aurora 1 The junior whiz kids kept on the winning trail'by clobbering Aurora 15 to 1. Just to test their mettle the boys will play Aurora Seniors at Richmond Hill High School at 4.00 pm. on Friday af- ternoon. The team will be up against their toughest competition to date and the game should be The Show Piece of the new rink is to be the Lounge. A sev- enteen foot stone fireplace is the dominant feature of the room with cantilevered stone steps leading from the Foyer to the Lounge. A beamed ceiling with panelled walls and appropriate draperies along with tasteful mo- dern furniture should make the Lounge a very spectacular room. The new Curling Club building is 'rapidly nearing a state of completion, with the roof now in place. It is ex- pected that the building will be completely closed in by this week-end and then the freezing plant will take ap- proximately three weeks to install. Ice for curling should be available by the first week in December. The club has hired Mr Hubert Allen as Secretary Manager and Mr. Allen comes to Richmond Hill with a wealth of experience. For the past few years Mr. Allen has been manager at the Boule- vard Club and is a qualified curl- ing instructor Curling instruc- Son is to be free for club mem- ers. The club will also feature a well run kitchen and snack bar and it is hoped that members will beable to drop in for luncheon. The intention is that the club will have its social as well as Athletic 51 e. The stones for curling arrived in Richmond Hill this week from Scotland where they were made. There is nothing synthetic about equipment in this curling club. The first four hundred men to join the club will be debenture holders and their debentures will be redeemable and will bear in- terest. So that eventually the money paid out will be redeem- ed. Anyone joining after the in- itial four hundred will have to wait for one of the original four hundred\to leave the club and the newcomer will be a straight mem- her, not a debenture holder. Lad- ies membership is to be limited to two hundred members. The club directors have devised a new method of financing a membership â€" it is now possible for a prospective member to de- posit $50.00 and sign a note for Lthe balance payable over a three a good one. Further details on membership and fees can be got by calling the Club President, Mr. Al Harley at TU. 4-3271. East York Swamps Locals 35-0, Sat. Last Saturday was the day when the Richmond Hill Indians could do nothing right. They in- tercepted four passes and recov- ered five East York fumbles and still couldn’t buy a point. They were swamped 35-0. The defensive unit of the In- dians came up with a big try in the first half but weakened bad- ly as the Yorkers started to roll. The team is now in third place in the league standings and plays Rosedale Roughriders in Green- wood Park this coming Saturday at 2 pm. Halfback Jerry McCowan is back in action as his broken c01- larbone is now well mended. Wayne Bailey is now in action at offensive centre and his old leg injury seems to be completely cured. NEWMARKET â€" Total value of 87 building permits for dwell- ings issued during September was $796,075. For the first nine months of the year 1959 value of permits is over the $6 million mark. ' NEWMARKET â€" Town and the .police association have reached an agreement on salary increases. Police will receive a $200 per annum raise across the board, which is up from the four per cent increase offered earlier by the town, and in turn the police have dropped their demand for accumulated sick leave allowance. ewé Karl Mueller rugged German grappler will test the skill of Gori Mangotich this Tuesday Oct. 27 at Thornhill Market. Mueller has never been called on to wrestle this European style of wrestling before in his whole career and many fans are wondering if the square head can really wrestle, as a general rule Mueller uses any‘ tactics at all to win a match and has created several almost riots at the market with his rugged style of mat work. Now he will have to wrestle with Mangotich and will be forced to omit the rough stuff. Mangotich a master wrestler will be forced to be on his toes at all times as Mueller is a real tricky operator, and cap. able of anything. Many fans have asked to see this match because tit should be very interesting to [The Braves were hopelessly' outclassed by the Lakeshore Boys as at the end of the first quarter the score was 21 to nothing and hand writing on the wall. This was one Thanksgiving Day game for which the Braves were not in the least thankful. Wayne Richardson and Kel Ton- ner had to leave the game at half time due to injuries but it is hoped that they will be back in action this Saturday. The whole game was a comedy of er- rors as far as the local club were concerned and some of the p1.ys that they used were scrip- ted by Wayne and‘Schuste‘r. Despite the terrific shellacking the team still has a chance to make the Playoffs with their next game in town being against Neil McNeil Training School next Sun- day at 2.00 pm. The players real- ize themselves that they will have to pull up their socks to live down the last Fiasco and will be out to avenge their record.
