SuggestMarkham Extend Their Municipal Franchise In a letter to council the club asked the members to extend the franchise as provided in the Mun- icipal Franchise Extension Act. Any such change would necessi- tate the taking of a yearly enum- eration, of the voters. Such elec- tors could not vote on money by- laws. At present the voters list is compiled from the assesment rolls. and includes all property owners and tenants. Reeve W. L. Clark felt the pro- posal required a great deal of thought before a decision could be made. He estimated the numâ€" ber of people affected in Mark- ham Township would be very small and questioned if it would justify the cost of an annual en- umeration. Councillor L. Mumber- son suggested the issue be referr- ed to the electorate for 3 deals- ion. Original Agreement on Bayview Avenue. Following signing of the agreement, council in a new policy decision ruled that all subdivisions must have 28 foot paved roads and storm sewers. The original agreement called for 24 foot paved roads and storm sewers only as required by the engineer. It was estimated this new policy if enforced would cost the subdivider an extra $961,900.90 to develop his land. The Department of Highways has turned down a suggestion that they install traffic lights at the intersection of Highway 48 and the Markham Unionville Town- line. The department said it may Council has ruled that the terms of the municipalities orig- inal subdivision agreement will apply to the Colmur Su_bq_ivision SIMPSUN’S DRY GOODS Child’s One Pce.
