ROBBINS, the Chief Constable of Rich- mond Hill has now returned from Western Canada where he has been enjoying a. holiday and during which he attend- ed the Federal Conference of Canadian Chief Constables. Chief Robbins says that he has had a thoroughly good time. He travelled throughout by car and was accompanied by Mrs. Robbins and his four children, Ronald, aged 9. Linda aged 7, David aged 5 and Kim aged 3. Chief Constables Conference increase in oil exploration and the During the period of the fam- establishment of so many ollflelds ily‘s travels a total of 5,700 miles have changed the face of the was covered including the return countryside." journey. Towns Hgve Grown The Chief Constables Confer- ence was held on the 13th, 14th and 15th of September at the Hotel Saskatchewan in Regina. Guest host was Chief Constable Cookson of Regina. Asked what the Conference talked about, Chief Robbins re- ‘ plied, “just about everything un. der the sun." Problems of inter- est to towns right across Can- ada were discussed and altogether it was an excellent and useful meeting said the Chief Constable. Good Speakers. Dinners The conference was specially favoured by the quality of the guest speakers who addressed the chief constables gathered there, there were some fine dinners en- joyed by all concerned and a highlight of the conference was a visit by all the chiefs to the Roy- al Canadian Mounted Police Training Depot in Regina. Children “No Trouble†Mrs. Robbins and the children enjoyed the trip also. The child- ren were no trouble at all and Chief Robbins and his wife kept up the children’s interest with a variety of novel games. For ex- ample they would enjoy ever so much the daily drawing of lots to decide who would occupy whi- ch seats, the regular breaks for roadside picnics, the fruit juices and cookies erved enâ€"route, the occasional ha ts for exercise when the children would enjoy a romp with the parents, the daily sur- prises when the parents bought at stores along the route little presents for the children. 1960 Miles - Three Days They covered the 1.960 miles to Regina from Richmond Hill with- out haste and in three days and enjoyed every minute of it. They always made an early start in the morning-usually getting away by 6 am. They were never tired because they made regular breaks and did not hurry. In conse- quence the children were no trouble at all and enjoyed the trip as much as anyone. ’ The changes of scenery along the route were terrific said Chief Robbins. It was never boring be- cause of these changes which ranged through the whole gamut. of picturesque scenes from areas of rocky and barren looking land to the flat countryside of the prairie and the wooded lands and the oilfields. It was a journey which presented a kaleidioscope ‘of Canadian life. Great Changes In Manitoba The greatest changes were in Manitoba. “Since my last visit right after World War 11" said . Chief Robbins. “there have been big changes across Manitoba. The Repairs to: Richvale Electranics Richmond Hill TV & Camera 50 YONGE ST. S. Re- gina and Saskatoon too, have spread themselves out a lot. “Bagged Some Ducks†The Chief Constable said he 9n- joyed some hunting during the trip and bagged some nice wild ducks. During part of the journey they encountered snow but by ‘the time they left Regina to re- iturn to Ontairio the snow had cleared Could Write A Book "Yes. I’d like to do it again. even more leisurely," replied Chief Robbins to another ques- tion, “and if I had the time, I could write a book about it." Bob Robbins concluded by saying that every Canadianwho can do so, should get out and see as much of their beautiful country as possible, but advised that such trips should be made without haste. This would avoid so many road accidents and add much pleasure to a trip. “For my part I would like to take a tent or trailer next time and record every min. ‘ute of our experiences" he said. R.W.E.
