Richmond Hill RICHMOND HILL The library board has agreed to help in forming a great books discussion group in the Hill. In- terest has been voiced by some of the library’s patrons, and it was agreed that the library should co-operate with' these people as much as possible. Any- one interested in reading and discussion of their reading should contact the library and join oth- ers who also enjoy this program. The regular monthly meeting of the Richmond Hill Public Li- brary Board was held in the Gor- don Maclaren Auditorium. Miss K. Ball, building committee chair- man reported that the final cheque had been paid cto the contractors and that their work was now completed. It was de- cided to complete the second work room since the increased ac- tivities in the library has nec- essitated the use of this room. year. Included in this increase of activity at the library is the school circulation of 3.431, which is almost the same circulation as compiled in the boys and girls section of the library. Mrs. Callie Israel, boys and girls librarian. reports that she has been warmly received at the schools when she Irrives with the boxes of 20‘ books to leave in each classroom. Each room also receives a book talk on the box of,books by Mrs. Israel. These books are rotated each month, and each room re- ceives a new selection and a book talk. The library board members expressed their approval of the success of this new service to the community. Superintendent McIntyre told the board the local Teachers' Council met November 4. This organization has tentative plans to discuss in-service development, staff social activities, and salary negotiations. Several in-servlce training courses are in progress or being planned for local public school teachers. Among them is a kin- dergarten course, a music course taught by Music Supervisor H. Fowler for grades 1, 2, 3 and 4; and an art program for all teach- ers, led by Principal Duard Rose. A series of teachers meetings on health and physical education is planned by Principal Newman. Inspector G. A. Wright of the physical education division of the Ontario Department of Education, was present briefly to state he will soon visit the schools to aid in suggesting ways to establish a long term physical education program. In-Service Courses A letter from Mrs. Cecily Thomson. chairman of the town Recreation Committee, asked the board to allow the schools to be used on Saturdays for meetings and suggested the recration com- mittee pay for the janitor ser- vices. In reply the board will state their policy to the effect Saturday is the "off" day for the caretakers and the board has found in the past outside custod- ial service has not been a sat- isfactory solution. If the Recre- tion Committee has anything further to suggest the board ack- nowledged it would be glad to meet with it. to extend the sanitary sewer and water main from their present terminal points on Tynview Lane to the property line of. the Plea- santville school site.
