Vice-Pres.) are the Victoria Square Com- munity Centre Trustees. the oc- casion was the presentation of a cheque for $250.00 to Treasurer Lloyd Tennyson by Lion Frank Williams to assist in the Com- munity Centre work. This money which came from the activities fund of the Victoria Square Dis~ trict Lions Club has been raised by ,the various Lions activities and‘is an example of how by supporting their local Lions Club residents are in fact contributing to the betterment of the com- munity they live in. Local Association of Girl Guides And Brownies The Local Association of Girl Guides and Brownies met at the home of Mrs. Frank Donnelly on Wednesday evening of last week with a good attendance. The president, Mrs. Stacey conducted the meeting. The meeting opened with the Girl Guide prayer, fol- lowed by the business. It was de- cided that at the next meeting in May that a shower will be held for the Guide and Brownie Camping Equipment. I-‘_tefreshments were served which brought an enjoyable even- ing to a close. Athletic Night S. S. No. ’7 Markham was the scene on Thursday and Friday evenings. March 3 and 4. of some very clever and interesting tumb- ling and gymnastic displays by the pupils of both the junior and senior rooms. which was held in the senior room. The manner in which the ev- ents were performed sh0‘ "ed great ability both by the teachers iin training the pupils and also by the pupils in understanding and doing the exercises. It is good to know that we have tea- chers who take so much' interest in the scholars and also that the children are so responsive to good instruction. An extra touch of comedy was added by a clown who came di- rect from outer space much to the amusement of all present. The teachers who are Mr. Bert Moorby. in the Sr. Room -and Mrs. D. Cochrane in the Jr. Room. were pleased with the re- sponse of the parents by their presence at the display. Mr. Har- old Hill thanked the teachers for their time and effort in training the children and then all ad- journed to the Jr. Room Where refreshments were served by the grade 6 mothers with Mrs. Donn-elly in charge.
