A 10 per cent rate reduction on small and compact cars is being introduced in Ontario this week by State Farm Mutual Automo- bile Insurance Company. Norm Briant. local agent for State Farm. also announced a reduction in liability rates for nearly two-thirds of the ï¬rm’s policyholders in Ontario. Nor‘m Briant said the small car reduction, which applies to com- prehensive. collision and liabil- ity coverages. recognizes the gen- erally lower repair costs involved with these cars. In addition. he said State Farm’s second car discount of 25 per cent will apply'on top of the compact car reduction, bring- ing extra savings to many famil- ies with a small second car. In order to qualify for the 10 per cent cut, a car must weigh 3,000 lbs. or less, be no longer than 200 inches, and have no more than 130 brake horsepower. Imported cars must cost no more than $2,500 new â€"-â€" port of entry or factory delivered price, which- ever is higher. All makes must be 1954 model year or newer to be eligible. ' Most models of the Rambler. Lark, Corvair, Falcon, Valiant, all Volkswagens and Renaults, and many other cars qualify for the reduction. Small Car Rates IO Percent Lower State Farm Mutual is the ‘world’s largest auto insurer, with nearly 6,000,000 policies in force in the US. and Ontario. Norm Briant’s office is at 255 Ashlar Road, Richmond ‘Hill. Well, spring at last, complete with robins, blackbirds. meadow larks, song sparrows and even an oriole heard on Monday morn- ing. Gardeners had better get their equipment ready for even with all the snow and mud the few plants showing life look rea- dy to spring into action at a moment’s notice. Neighbourhood Notes The Walton’s were back in their own home again last week after a winter in Florida and a visit with their daughter in Port Cred- it before returning home. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Clark Jr., who oc~ cupied the house while the Wal- tons were away are now at the Champion apartments. The concert sponsored by the Unionville Junior Farmers and held in Buttonville Hall Saturday evening of last week was quite suCCessful according to reports. The musical group was from On- tario County. John and Margaret Brumwell are 'happy to be in their new home on 16th Avenue. They mov- ed from their apartment at Champions last week. Recent vacationers returning from the sunny south were Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Morley of Arn- leigh Heights; and Mr. and Mrs. A W Miller who arrived home Saturday night of last week after three weeks in Florida with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Symonds of Ux- bridge. Land Flooded Now the Unionville club plans another show of their own, we’re happy to hear. Their presenta- tions have always been a bright spot on the year’s entertainment calendar. With the melting of the snow early last week. water channelled to that point from road ditches which slant from Jones store (on both sides of the road) south, and from the gravel pit north, found no outlet but the Pralets’ ï¬elds and greenhouses. A ditch dug by Miller Paving when' that ï¬rm raised the ï¬eld they own to the south of the Pralet line was snow plugged and all the waterrfrom thevroad culvert was thrown into this low spot. Mr and Mrs. Richard Pralet were breathing easier Monday morning of this week when flood waters receded from their low- lying farm lands and showed signs of abating.‘ Mr. and Mrs. Pralet grow flow- ers and vegetables. Their green- houses and root cellar were flood- ed and they are hoping their pansy beds are not ruined. A good pansy crop means ready cash ear- ly in the spring after a winter with no income. Euchre At the euchre in Buttonville Hall on Friday evening, it was announced that the next game will be played on THURSDAY evening, April 14, as Good Fri- day is the regular date. There 'were 11 tables of players preS- ent, and prizes went to Messrs. Bert Nichols, E. Hill, Mr Powell, Mrs. Mona Burr. Mrs. Wardle, and Miss Dell Stephenson. Mr. Vanderburg won the lucky draw, a chicken. The freezeout was won by Mr. Tom Wilcox and Mrs. Norman Denby against Mr. Don Brodie and Mrs. Russell Buying- ton.
