Their teacher, Miss Kirby, had arranged and rehearsed them for their program and each child had invited Mom to attend the spec- ial “Open Houseâ€. At three o’clock expeptant, shining eyes were turned to- wards the door, watching for that special guest to arrive and indeed about 26 mothers did attend. The program was varied with class singing and choral reading. Some excellent readers proved they were just that by reading a section each from their reader. Shelley James and Lynda Reeds each sang a solo most beautifully. Now it was the class's turn again and they sang as they performed two sprightly dances. More tal- ent was well displayed by Ken Rumble on his piano accordian followed by Sheena McDonald, in full costume dancing 3 High- land dance. Quite recently another Maple student, Noel Gillings, was grade 9 champion in intramural gym- nastics. Congratulations to all four â€"â€" your home town is mighty proud of you. It was a big- day for Maple at Richmond Hill High School when the winners of the Spring Har- rier Races were announced over the school PA. system. In each division a student from Maple not only won but broke the ex- isting record for time as well. The pupils‘ work was exhibited around the room and the hand puppets they had made, showed great originality and effort. At 3:30 the star performers, all were dismissed and the mo- thers enjoyed tea and cakes along with learning of their own ghild’s problems from Miss Kir- y. AURORA â€" A joint meeting of the district high school board and the town council has been told that little can be done to change the cost of sharing the op- eration of the high school dis- trict without the permission of the provincial government. At present Aurora, King and Whit- church Townships are all mem- bers of the high school district. In face of a rising tax rate Au- rora Council has been suggest- ing that the district be dissolved. They had taken and sent the interest- ing coloured slides shown by Mrs. Pearson along with much information re missionary work being done in India. Included were slides taken recently while Mrs. Pearson toured the Barbados Islands. The committee served refreshments at the close of the meeting.
