Yates, O.L.S. 53 Bedford Park Avenue Richmond Hill, TU. 4-2941 The whole subdivision was greatly saddened by the pass- ing last week-end of Frank Jen- nings. Frank and Elizabeth with their three children moved here ‘over 9 years ago, and immediat- 1ely became involved in numerous land varied organizations. I per- sonally remember their associa- tions with the Highland Park As- sociation, Home and School and [Cubs and Scouts. One of my per- sonal fond recollections of Frank is the part he played in a presen- tation of the Footlights Club. He made many friends and will be sadly missed by many in this neighbourhood. The memorial service was a fitting tribute with many former neighbours present. This community extends to Eliz- abeth and the children the neces- sary fortitude, and the hope they will be able to carry on here in the subdivision. Our thoughts PIANO TUNING Henderson boys lost the last game of football last Monday night. They were defeated by Thornlea 14-7 to end up in se- cond place. An exhibition game with St, Luke’s is planned for Tuesday night. Neighbourhood Notes K Mr. Martindale then introduced the Rev. H. R. MacDonald who presented the pins to the fol- lowing graduates. Terry Aimone, John Bonnici, (absent) Jo-Anne Bragan, Brian Dale, (absent) Har- ri Haataien, (absent) Ricky Mae- ers, Paul Russell (who was the top scholar of the class and won a $15.00 scholarship) Ian Watts, Pat Wren, Linda McNab. A panel consisted of Miss O'- Neil, primary teacher, Mrs. Al- mone, parent, Mrs. Frazer, inter- mediate teacher - Mr. Higgs, parent and Mrs Calder and Mrs. Arnott representing seniors. A very lively question and answer period followed. School Sports KINGSDALE ANIMAL HOSPITAL nenuerson Ave. Home and School At the October 28th meeting of the Henderson Avenue Home & School members and friends were welcomed, as well as the graduating class. The grade count was won by Miss Fowler’s class. Mrs. Hughes gave her report of the Fun Fair. It was a most suc~ cessful venture and netted the Home and School a total of just over $300.00, She wanted to thank all who so willingly volun- teered their services to make it the tremendous success it was. A committee was drawn up to investigate tape recorders. Mr. Hayes the president, reported on some correspondence with Mr. Crisp the township clerk re the skating rink. Appointments are to be made this week to a “Com- munity Centre Board." Rather than waste valuable time waiting ,for any assistance it was decid- ed to proceed with the work of putting up the boards once more, and we sincerely hope we can count on the assistance of the fathers some Saturday soon; You will of course be notified in ad- ’vance. .Downnn unannâ€" and prayers are with them. The sympathy of the neigh- bours goes also to Jay Connors who lost her Mother last week. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Bill-ington and Laraine leave us this week to return to England, after a stay of three and a half years. While we bid them a fond farewell, and wish them the very best, we find it hard to understand anyone leaving our fair neighbourhood, and will always expect them to return someday. The Johnson family enjoyed a family re-unlon a week ago at Allendale up at Georgian Bay. this is an annual event close to the Thanksgiving weekend. The weather this year far surpassed other years, the whole country- side being a blaze of colour, and the water so inviting along with the mild weather. The Fun Fair 'ast‘baturday was quite the social event, besides L-eing so profitable financially, we saw many neighbours hours enjoying tea that we hadn‘t seen for some time. They were happily announcing the birth of a boy, a brother for little Jill. Birthday Wishes Our Langstaff Cubs and Scouts made good use of our new Scout Hut. They met there to receive their apples and returned for hot chocolate and doughnuts which were provided by the Mothers Auxiliary. Congratulations Well last Saturday was Apple Day and its a treat to see the shining faces of the Cubs and Scouts offering their equally shining apples to the people of the community. Correspondents: Mrs. E. E. Spears 25 Roosevelt Dr. AV 5-3110 Mrs. A. Blackburn 108 Yonzehurst TU 4-?811 Apple Day The finals for pupils from schools in Markham Township ex- cept for Markham Village Schools took place in Unionville Public School on Thursday evening October 27th. Just to prove the old but true adage - Nothing suc- ceeds like success - Jamie Dil- lane came first. On the afternoon of November 9th the York Coun- ty finals will take place. Need- less to say Henderson Ave., pu- pils are rooting for Jamie to win again. Tuesday evening in the Wood- land Publc School two pupils from each of the following schools competed â€" Woodland, Thornlea, St. Luke’s and Henderson. Jamie again emerged as winner with Bruce Tucker of Woodland in second place and Janice Phelan of St. Luke’s in third place. On Monday, October 24, eight pupils of Henderson Ave.. Public School spoke in the auditorium on a varied list of topics Jamie Dillane emerged as the winner against the following group of competitors â€" Bobby Rueter, Theo R-ueter, Terry Yuzwak, Deb- me Oliver, Susan Morse, Brenn- ley Mazelow and Heather Men- z1es. Adios good friends until next week but remember an unkind word can mar a day, but a thoughtful word can raise us up to greater achievement. The week of October 24-28 could well be cal-led Oratoncal Week for one boy at least as he took part in three speaking con- tests within 4 days. A meeting was held at Mrs. Barton's Meadowview home, last week with about *6 ladies pres- ent. Around $30.00 was realized from the September Corn roast. A hallowe’en party was held on Thursday night for the cubs, and a bowling party is planned for the Scouts on Saturday, Novem- ber 5th. Apple Day was also suc- cessful in this locality and a vote of thanks goes out to all who worked so hard to make it the success it was. The Johnson family enjoyed a family re-union a week ago at Allendale up at Georgian Bay. this is an annual event close to the Thanksgiving weekend. The weather this year far surpassed other years, the whole country- side being a blaze of colour, and the water so inviting along with the mild weather. The Fun Fair 'ast‘haturday was quite the social event, besides Lâ€"eing so profitable financially, we saw many neighbours bours enjoying tea that we hadn't seen for some time. This event 'seems to be the beginning of the ‘Bazaar season for on Wednesday last we ran into many more of lthe girls at the big one at Exhi- ‘bition Park, Toronto. Last Sunday saw the onset of Standard time once again, and with it the longer, darker even- ings. We hope YOU will remem~ ber please to put the porch lights on and brighten the way for any- one who has to walk. It just might prevent an accident. Cub and Scout Mothers V--- r. -v... Mr. and Mrs. C.
