Since its inauguration the authority has held a number of meetings and several proposals have been, and are presently under considera- tion. ‘ ' The authority is comprised of 3 members, A1 Harley, a well known and energetic citizen being chairman together with Stu Cox- ford and Don Plaxton as the other two members. While the authority has jurisdiction over municipal parking over the en- tire municipality, of necessity the work has been concentrated in the main commercial area of the town on Yonge Street. The immediate problem con- fonting the authority is to pro- vide parking facilities to mer- chants and businessmen who find themselves in an ,incrcasingly competitive position with the newer and larger Parking Plazas. The Authority welcomes the ad- dition of our newest stores and businesses and will no doubt in the future have to deal with park- ing problems which may arise in these areas, but the 'basic prob- lem remains that of alleviating t": down town parking situation. It is increasingly evident that their problem is not a simple one - acquiring the necessary, land and money is today the main prdblem. To date the auth- ority has accomplished the .fol- lowing; (1) Graded and gravelled fhe Town property on the north side of Lorne Avenue for municipal parking.
