April 12 The Consumers‘ Gas Company’s “Paris in the Springtime†show -- a month long natural gas cooking demonstration tour presented by members of the c'ompany’s Betty Vaughan Township Council, at its regular meeting Monday, ap- proved a recommendation by its waterworks committee, chaired by Mrs. Ruth McConkey, that a by- law be passed authorizing the borrowing of $36,000 topay for the balance of the capital costs of the Maple Well. Application to float a debentures issue will now go before the Ontario Mun- icipal Board _for approval. Vaughan Will Borrow $36,000 Balance Capital Costs Maple Well ___rVW 7 , When developer J. Grant com- menced work on the Normaple Subdivision, he agreed to contri- but $90,000 toward the develop- ment of a well and pump house. This was agreed upon before the engineer's estimate was in. Sub- sequently, the cost rose to $126,- 000 and Mr. Grant in effect loan- ed the township $36,000 to com- plete the two projects. Vaughan's administrators say there is no valid reason why the money should not be returned to Mr. Grant, hence the debentures. An area resident wanted to know whether the debentures would mean ahighenweger fate. Coun- all said 'that if it did, the increase would be very little, and also pointed out that when approxim- ately 50 more consumers were hooked up a proper financial ba- lance would result. Elgin Mills Council agreed that the water shortage in the Elgin Mills area be further studied. More detail will be prepared by the town- ship staff prior to a meeting on April 11 between council mem- bers and the property owners. The meeting will take place in the council chambers at 8 pm. Principal Garnet Mcharmid then spoke on the level system. for the benefit of parents who were just coming into touch with it through their children. To quote Mr. McDiarmid “The Work to be accomplished in each grade is divided evenly into three parts. Thus most pupils would do three levels of work in one year, 'six levels of work in two years, and eighteen levels of work in six years. For those adjudged able to profit by a faster pace, four levels could be taken in each year. It will be seen that twelve levels can be taken in three years of time. Since twelve lev- els are equivalent to four grades of work, the pupil has gained a year and will leave elementary school in seven years instead of eight. On the other hand children who need more time to finish a grade's work might take two levels of work in a year. Since this pupil would take three years to do six levels, (the end of Grade 2) it will be seen that he will leave elementary school in nine years instead of eight. In either case, the change is gradual, and the pupil neither repeats nor skips a whole year's work." Crosby Heights Home and School Installation of Crosby Heights Home and School 1961-62 execu- tives was held on March 22, in the school auditorium. Members elec- ted were as follows: President, Mrs. B. Norton: lst Vice-Presl- dent, Mr. T. Bull: Recording Sec- retary, Mrs. P. Ker-foot; Corres- ponding Secretary, Mrs. S. Hen- derson; Treasurer, Mrs. D. Hen- derson; Executive Members. Mrs. Clephan; Mrs. M. McAlister; Mrs. Urquhart and Mr. J. Kerfoot. Mr. G. Gray was installing officer._ After installation ceremonies were complete Mr. Samuels’ gt, 5 and 6 pupils entertained par- ents with some Old Tyme music and Square Dancing which re- ceived a terrific round of ap- plause. Mr. R. Clifton of the Richmond Hill Film Library Club spoke on “Childrens Films" which proved of great interest to the attending parents. Prenatal instruction classes’ for expectant mothers will begin a- gain in Richmond Hill, in mid- April. A series of nine even- ing discussions is given on growth and changes in pregnancy and in infancy, processes of labour and care of the new baby and family. Special classes for expec- tant fathers are arranged when convenient. A visit to the hospital of confinement is arranged for expectant mothers to familiarize them with the environment of the maternity ward to which they will be going for delivery of their baby. The course of instruction is prepared in collaboration with the York County Medical Society and with the support of the fam- ily physicians in the County.
