DRY c2w42 iSLMiary's Men Meet Judge Frank McDonagh, Sen- ior Judge of York County, was guest speaker when forty mem- bers of St. Mary’s Holy Name Society, Richmond Hill. held their annual dinner meeting at the Richmond Grill and named offi- cers for 1961-62. Dinner followed Holy Mass in St. Mary’s Church. Vaughan Township Council on Monday went on record as being opposed to lots of less than 10.- 000 square feet in the long-prop- osed Maple Glen Subdivision just west of Maple. This move follow- ed consideration of the contents of a copy of a letter sent by the developers to the Metropoltan Planning Board relative to the installation of sewers to service the proposed plan. w“. I r--e, Messrs. Ralph Greenstein and Samuel Freedman of Toronto. the developers. originally looked to building approximately 30 homes on the 86-acre plot of land. In the light of new developments, they are seeking to grrange for a sewage disposal plant to re- place the original septic tank plan. If they succeed in getting permission from Metro for the disposal plant, township oificials feel they might have to reduce the area of the individual lots to build more homes to meet the cost of the sewage disposal plant. York CoUnty Judge Frank McDonagh Was Speaker To Holy Name Society Judge McDonagh pointed out that the Catholic faith, by its very nature. promotes good citi- zenship. Faith, morality and cit- izenship go together. he declared. A great challenge is put to men to protect them. Two Dangers Seen Two dangers mus-t be combat- te-d. His Honour declared. One was the prevalent immorality and the other, attacks by those who would like to destroy our system of government. “Just as faith without works is dead, so is cit- Building Lots To Be 10,000 Feet Vaughan Twp. A Simple Way To IncreaseYourCar’s Trade-In Value 3 Day Coaching School, Tuesday Once in a while we take in a three to five-yearâ€"old used car from a new car buyer that has virtually no body rust despite the fact that it has been driven in all types of weather and parked out- doors overnight. In talking .to the owner it invariably turns out that he or she had the car washed fre- quently so that road grime and corrosive salts have not had a chance to eat into the paint. Immaculate body condition in a used car can easily up the value a hundred dollars since a deal- er realizes that the car’s appearance will do much to increase its normal resale‘; Value" M . R. Bear An additional fact that is not generally known is that hot steam, used by many as- sembly line wash plants, will dull any car finish and ultimatey cause flaking and rust spots. Automobile manufacturers' instructions clear- ly state that only luke warm or col-d water should be used to pre- serve the finish on the new acryl- ic paints. ' Another worthwhile suggestion is to have the attendant play his hose under the fenders for a few seconds to wash out accumula- tions of salt that continue to eat away at the inside of metal sur- faces even after the car has been washed normally. The recent trend in car colors is back to solid colors from twoâ€" tone combinations with straight black and white accounting for better than fifty percent of cars sold. Our paint shop is equipped to give your car a new finish of factory quality and match any color you desire. St. Matthew’s United Church, Crosby Ave.. Maple Glen had hoped to start work on the first five of the 200 homes this month. A month ago, draft approval prepared by the township and the principals had been pretty well worked out but was put aside to enable the prin- cipals to prove to the York Coun- ty Health Unit that the drainage involved could be taken care of by a septic tank development. The health unit, by March 20, ex- pressed a preference for a sew- age disposal plant and since then the developers have been negot- iating with Metro. understood now it will require that the standard of development conform to present policy, namely 10,000 square foot lots, and the construction of no more than 50 homes per year. If the town could supply water, said Vaughan Township, then action would be taken under the Local Improvement Act, with Vaughan paying for water in bulk and control being exercised through a master meter. “People south of our border also want water," said Council- lor Howard Whillans. “How can we give it to one and not to the othei‘ VaughanWantsToKnowlf Water Is Available} What's a "felineophobe?" Originator of the new word. Councillor Tom Broadhurst at Richmond Hill Town Council meeting, this week refused to re- veal whether it meant an anti- catter or a pro-catter. His brand new contribution to the langu- age was delivered when he re- ported that, since his 'facetious reference to the money to be made by taxing cats appeared in “The Liberal” under the alliter- ative heading “Cat Capture Can Contribute Cash, Claims Coun- cillor” he had received numer- ous telephone messages on his stand. pleased that the town’s feline population was to be brought un- der control. Cat lovers have not yet been heard from in any con- siderable number, the councillor reported. When they are, it is suggested, a few of the proverb- ial nine lives may be required by Councillor Broadhurst as he flees from the wrath of the pro- catters. Whether or not he will re- main a .“felineophobe” after that experience remains to be seen. Council Puzzled Over Meaning Of "Felineophobia" Some of them, he declared, had taken his suggestion quite seriously.
