Approval i A sanitary sewer system‘ which will serve the south-wes- tern corner of Markham Town- ship has been approved by the Ontario Municipal Board. The area to be serviced is bounded on the north by John Street, on the east by the Grandview Es- tates, where sewers are already installed; on the south by Steel-es Avenue and on the west by Yonge Street, except for a small section on Elgin Street, Thornhill, where lots are mostly of one acre. The municipal board hearing, staged in the township offices at Buttonville on January 4th, turned down a proposal for a $360,000 storm sewer system in the Highland Park area. *Dr. R. M. King, Medical Of- ficer of Health for York Coun- ty, stressed the need for the new sanitary sewer system. The system will discharge into a Metro Toronto trunk sewer at Steeles Avenue and the Don ‘River. It will be constructed by the Ontario Water Resources Commission. Cost will be am- orbized over 30 years or a pro- perty owner may pay cash in full. Estimated cost of the sys- tem for a householder owning property assessed at $2,500 would be $55.50 yearly.
