Wedding bells will ring shortly for Len and his fiancee, Miss Pat Allen. Pat and Len are both avid five pin bowlers, but somehow the fair Miss Allen al- ways manages to beat Len’s best triple score. This could be quite a consolation in years to come. When the kids start to get on his nerves he can always put them to work shining up their mother’s bowling tro- phies! Jimmy and the members of his executive have knocked themselves out organizing the annual soft- ball shuflfle. There is also the little matter of a Sports Day Parade coming up on June 13th. Help is needed to make the show that pays a goodly part of the soft- ball bill a financial success. If you’d like to be part of a live, vital organization dedicated to helping child- ren toward healthy recreation, then this is for you. Just one phone call to Jim and you’re off and running. Make the call real soon if you can. â€" SPORT SPOTS â€"- Despite the torrid tropical zone heat last Thurs- day, over 400 high school students from this area com- peted in the Eckhardt Trophy Track Meet held at Aurora. Anyone who saw the meet and had a chance to see the kids in action would have been almighty proud of them. YOLUME LXXXII, NUMBER 47 â€"- SPORT SPOTS â€" There are still openings for coaches to take charge of young teams playing in the Richmond Hill Minor Ball Association. If you have a spare evening at your disposal now and then, like kids and want to stay young in heart, why not phone Jim Stevens at TU. 4-7732. Track sports seem to engender good conduct in every one. In most sporting events razzing of an“ op- ponent is an accepted part of the business but in track and field sports only applause and encourage- ment is heard. It teaches good manners, consideration for the other person and an appreciation of a good effort. All of which are highly desirable attributes. In a more serious vein the same Mr. McLean is a darn good shortstop. He not only plays his own position, and plays it well, but he has the ability to go back for the deep ones and turn a certain hit into a spectacular out. His play could add strength to the Dynes Jeweller infield this year. They turned out to be fierce competitors, gracious winners and generous losers. Everyone of them com- peted to the limit of their capabilities and at the same time managed to be perfect ladies and gentlemen. Richmond Hill High School once more proved to be too powerful to be beaten and captured meet hon- ours for the sixth year in a row. Other schools in the area had some very fine individual performers but the overall power of the green and white track squad was too great an obstacle to overcome. Richmond Hill and Bayview High Schools, both serving Richmond Hill pupils had some very fine young people at the meet. Some amazing performan- ces were recorded, more especially amazing when you consider that it was the first time a lot of them had ever performed on a cinder track. Aurora High School has a track and that’s the reason the meet was held in Aurora although Bayview High School were the official hosts of the meet. Maybe it’s just about time that a track was pro- vided some where in Richmond Hill. Admittedly a track costs a bob or two but it’s an investment in a lot of futures. Yes, it would have to be financed out of tax money, but then a lot of other projects have been carried out with tax money that won’t have such an effect, such a salutary effect, on the youth of Richmond Hill. The kids have the talent, the ambition and the urge. Why don’t we give them something to work with? Len walloped a ball in practice last Sunday that our tired old eyes didn’t see â€" not until it hits us in the neighbourhood of the right brisket. Now, blazon- ed on our short ribs in beautiful glowing colour is the evidence. If anybody ever hit a ball any harder you couldn’t prove it by us. Next time Slugger McLean comes to bat we’ll race you for the nearest slit trench! Lennie McLean, the dynamic young shortstop, who has played for several town teams over the past few years, has never been noted as a hard ball hitter. And yet a grave injustice has been done him and we can prove it. As an operating unit within the ranks of the C.A.H.A., the T.H.L. group has no power to legislate against or to waive the suspension rule in any way. However, after hearing the complete story of the in- cident the T.H.L. executives did not see fit to censure Earl Methe for his action but chances are that they will recommend to the parent body that the suspen- sion rule be waived. And if that isn’t a vote of con- fidence in a man, then what is? â€" SPORT SPOTS â€" Under the laws of the C.A.H.A., the body that legislates all amateur hockey in Canada, Earl was automatically in line for a one year suspension. The ineeting, conducted not unlike an informal court hear- ing, was attended by several interested parties and everyone gave witness in support of the action. Earl Methe, coach of the Sing Along Hockey Team had a hearing before the executive of the Toronto Hockey League. The T.H.L. is the organization billed as the biggest little hockey organization in the world. Earl was on the carpet for taking his players off the ice before the end of a game because, in his consid- ered judgment the kids were too tired to protect them- selves against possible injury. The first goal by Roma set the pattern as out- side-left Bob Lewis hit in a high centre from the right wing. Leighton Davies connected with a hard right foot on a pass from Joe Lukovits for the second goal. Shortly afterwards Newmarket was awarded a penalty kick, which their centre forward ‘cleanly converted.
