It is very seldom hhmt I wrlte‘ a letter to your newspaper but I am somewhat perplexed by The goings on of our town coun- cil. Their action in erecting, wgly and anfcagonistic traffic signs on Yonge Street angered a large number wf local resi- dents. This was done by the same council that had been tel- ling our local merchants they were going to help restore the Yonge Street busines_s section. The District Anmual Rally will be held this year at Vel- lore. Anyone wishing to attend. please pack a picnic lunch and be prepared to lea;.e at 9 am. Fm details regarding car ar- angements. please telephone Mrs. Dewsbury a‘t TU 4-1828. gear 7%â€. Now Mr. Mayor I uhink you should ten the people why this situation is allowed to exist. The Dairy Queen operated by Mr. William Stephenson on Yonge St. N. was built according to all the legal requirements and pays in excess of $1,100 in taxes to the town. I think you Mr. Mayor should tell the tax- payers how much in taxes our town is receiving from the ice cream stand at the centre. How did it get into operation withâ€" out a building permit from town officials? Now we see an ice cream stand is in business at flhe Rich- mond Heights Centre. It is car- rying on business yet it does n’t conform with our zoning or building bylaws. What is more important I understand a build- ing permit for it was rejected by our building inspector, but as of June 13th the ice cream stand is still in business. Some time ago an auto firm held a gigantic sale at the cen- tre which is contrary to our zoning bylaWS. Why Mr. Mayâ€" or are firms allowed to openly break our bylaws? Would the le-ge Street Merchants be al- lowed similar concessions? We have already asked that the new traffic signs be taken off Youze Street. It will be interesting In the very near future I wouldn’t be surprised if some- ‘one didn’t ask for an investi- ‘gation by an outside authority. Something went wrong last No- ‘vember when we allowed our council to be re-eleoted by ac- clamation. to see what action town coun- cil will take on our request. 7 THE LIBERAL, Richmond Hill. Ontario.
