Last year, Betty Priestman, the director of tho Footlights Club was introduced in this column. She has directed many successful plays for the Footlight‘s Club in the past and she is busy getting her cast ready for another. This time it will be “The Happiest Days Of Your Life” by John Dighton. Betty Priestman lives at 70 Grandview Avenue. Other members of her theatrical family are her husband Rodger and son Bob. The play is scheduled to come off in March. Watch the paper for the definite date. WILL SOME ONE LEND A HAND! One doesn’t hear too much about the wonderful work of the Canadian Arthritis and Rheumatism Soc- iety. The society works quietly in our district help- ing severely disabled people. They need three or four volunteers to take Richmond Hill patients to the North York Hydro-Therapy Pool. This treatment has been recommended by their doctors but they can’t go unless someone takes them. If anyone is inter- ested in doing something for these people, phone Miss Mary Neville â€" collect -â€" at 924-7361. PEOPLE IN THE NEWS It just seems that these amazing residents just don’t hide their light under a bushel. I’m not sur- prised, for the Townships of Markham and Vaughan are teeming with talented and interesting people and only time is needed before they will be recognized and enjoyed by all. In the Globe and Mail, January 2, the Carrville Animal Defenders Club under the lead- ership of Mrs. Bruce Wark was the subject of an in- teresting sketch. The idea that motivates this club is bound to catch on, it is so worthwhile. In the Telegram, January 4, Mary Lee Axelson was pictured at her typewriter surrounded by admir- ing sons. David, Michael and John. Mary says the boys make good critics and she tries all her stories on them first. Other authors of children’ books were rep- resented in the same article. They were Max Braith- waite, Robert Furgueson and Fred and Beulah Swayze. Rambling Around NEW PRODUCTION ON THE WAY BY THE FOOTLIGHTS CLUB Membership in the organiza- lien is open to all responsible adults at $2 a year. All non- members will be welcomed at any of the society's debates. Nurse Returns Home From Overseas Post Executive of the new group includes Bill Leisliman, chair- man; Cecil Williams. vice-chair- man: Cyril Bell. secretary; Don Plaxlon. treasurer; Ken Tomlin, membership chairman: Bill Fer- guson. procedures chairman and Mr. Broadhurst. A group of men active in pub- lic life in Richmond Hill have formed an adult debating club, to be known as the Richmond Hill Parliament. Object of the club, according to Publicity Chairman Tom Broadhurst, is to “promote the widest and best informed dis- cussion of topics of major integ- est and importance . . . to stim- ulate political interest where it exists and attempt to create it where it does not". Debating Group Slates Meeting For February 26 First of two sessions for 1963 is slated for February 26 in Wrixon Hall. This inaugural meeting will be held in conjunc- tion with the Allin Club. one of Toronto‘s oldest debating soc- icties. Tentative plans call for gueSt speakers well-known in the pol~ itical field. A Richmond Hill nurse re- turned to her home on Rich- mond Street last week after 1 year in Ceylon as a Canadian Overseas Volunteer. She is Grethe Dahl. Miss Dahl returned to Manon Airport by way of Japan. Indi and Honolulu. ' 7Per Cent Drop Recorded In '62 Building in the township had shown a steady growth sinpe 1958.
