Margaret and Patricia Patter- son were songsters in the Thornhill secondary school mu- sical show presented last week. They sang duets between acts. Donna Ryan, fiVe year old daughter of Morley and Marie Ryan, R. R. No. 1 Unionville. will appear on the Tiny Talent Show, Hamilton TV station, March 31. Donna is the grand- daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Symons of Uxbridge and Mr. and Mrs. Maitland Ryan of Ce- dar Grove. Her proud teacher is Mr. Brian Foley, nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Leitch of Buttonville. The competition at Anderson High School. Whitby will start at 8.30 pm. and the judges‘ de- cision will be announced at 10 pm. Commissioner James Ross of Whitby Hydro, and a mem- ber of the Ontario Municipal Electric Association, will pre- sent the Hydro cup and the shield to the winners. Next March 31 there will be a communion service at Brown’s Corners Church. Last week Mr. Kenneth Deer preached his last sermon at Brown‘s Corners pri- or to examinations and a mis- sion charge this summer. The children’s choir added a nice note to last Sunday's ser- vice. By Easter their leader, Mrs. George Hooper, plans to have new choir gowns ready for them. The weather was so bad Tues- day evening of last week that the intrepid UCW No. 1 unit cancelled their meeting. They planned to hold it at the home of Mrs. Richard Tribbling this week. Mrs. Rena Calvert Wins Prize The winter series of euchre games sponsored by the But- tonville W.I. and played at But- tonville W.I. Hall every second week since January 11, wound up Friday evening of last week with Mrs. Rena Calvert emerg- ing the grand prize winner. Mrs. Calvert’s 527 points for six games won her the turkey. There were 15% tables of play- ers for the last game, and cur- rent winners were Mrs. Bea Thomson, Mrs. RuSSell Boying- ton, Mrs. Barbara Hryb; Dr. George Kelly, H. Mizen and Jim Rodick. Freezeout winners were Mrs. Irene Wray and Mr. Russell Burr against Mrs. Gor- don Tooley and Roy Tooley. payers’ Association and the On- tario Municipal Electric Asso- ciation (Municipal Hydro Com- missions). Local Nurseryman Named To Council At the recent annual meet- ing of the Ontario Nursery- men’s Association held at the ROYal Botanical Gardens in Hamilton, Robert Endean of Endean Nurseries Limited. Richmond Hill was appointed to t 1963 In speaking to the Liberal Mr. Endean said that at the present time the 220-member Ontario body is working in close co-operation with colleges and universities with the view to upgrading the quality of horticultural courses. Lions Set $2,500 Goal In Easter Seal Campaign The 1963 Easter Seal cam- paign is now being conducted in 228 communities throughout Ontario, and sponsors are the Ontario Society for Crippled Children and its Rotary, Lion, Kiwanis, Kinsmen and other service club representatives. The financial goal this year is $1,000,000 and the Richmond Hill Lions club hope that they will be able to realize $2,500 as the contribution of the people of Richmond Hill towards the objective. Last year Richmond Hill Lions col- lected close to $2,100. Miss Arvilla Forres- ter, who was able to come home from Briarbush Hospital. Stouffville, on Saturday after- noon and Mr. Albert Leek, who spent a couple of months in St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, and is now convalescing at the home of his son and daughter- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Leek. Master James Hart is in Sick Children’s Hospital, Toronto, for surgery on his leg. Miss Jill Holmes is confined to her home with measles. Mr. Allan Sider is convaleso ing at St. John's Convalescent Hospital following an operation on his back. Master Tony Gabrielle en- tertained a number of friends at a party on Saturday for his seventh birthday. Mumps are still making their rounds. Rev. Wm. VanderBent is the latest victim. Word was received on Thurs- day that Mr. and Mrs. Tom Christilow of Blind River had welcomed a fourth daughter. Mrs. Christilow is a Gormley girl and also taught at Victoria Square school. The Canadian Conference of the Brethren in Christ Church- es convenes on March 30 at Heise Hill Church. Recent visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Elias Elliott were Mr. A1- bert Heise, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gillam and family. The beautiful weather over the weekend was most welcome after our long, cold winter. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Taylor of New Toronto had supper on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. C. Milsted. Gormley News Last Saturday a. crowd of 200 gathered at the Compass Restaurant, Newmarket, for an enjoy- able evening of relaxation. Mrs. J. F. Simpson of Aurora was crowned Mrs. New Democratic Party, North York. Mrs. Simpson, a housewife with four children, recently gave birth to twin boys. Stan Hall, New Democratic Party federal can- didate in York North is seen congratulating Mrs. Simpson. Profits from the dance will be used to help finance the present campaign.
