March 22nd was the gala windup in the Maple Minor Hockey Association. As president, I wish to say thank you to the residents of Maple on behalf of the executive, for the overwhelming support shown by your turnout at Schomberg Arena. 3 It is this kind of support ‘which makes your executive re- alize, that the time and effort was worthwhile. Has the Diefenbaker govern- ment left the country in such a mess? The Telegram of Fe- ‘bruary 5th states that the per- centage work climb is the high- est since 1949 (and which party was in them). This in spite of the coldest winter in thirty years and the New York news- paper strike, both of which af- fected our work forces. Last June Mr. Pearson and John Addison were preaching from every stump that devaluation would bring disgrace and econ- omic ruin. We don't hear much talk from them on this sub- ject nowadays. I wonder why? Canada has, since those dire prediction: been leading in percentage increases in output. (Even President Kennedy has told Congress that they had better watch Canada for leads in sustaining economy and prices. The Globe 81 Mall of (Continued From Page 2) other matters. As president, I wish to say thank you to the residents of Maple on behalf of the executive, for the overwhelming support shown by your turnout It I cannot mention here all the people who worked so hard to make the evening a success. But to them a hearty thank you and to the rest of you fine neighbors, who came out on Friday night, our feelings are best summoned up by the words of one pee wee player who said “Isn't it great playing before all these people". Sincerely yours for Better Hockey, Dalt McArthur, President, Maple Minor Hockey Associa- tion. V ï¬t t III ROYAL YORK HOTEL Dear Mr. Editor: After reading the Toronto Star I think Mr. A. A. Are these statements all wrong. and the Liberals cor- rect? Who is misleading the people? What about assistance for education? In these days of automation the Dietenbaker Government recognized and gripped the problem by offer- ing to all local school boards one hundred per cent assist- ance in building or adding to schools for technical education. Tangible evidence of this may be found in the schools in New- market, King City, Richmond Hill, Markham, Stouffville, Thornhill and Sutton all in York North. amounting to over seven million dollars. - y. MARIA'S Dear Mr. Editor: After reading the Toronto Star I think Mr. A. A. Macken- zie, the M.P.P. for York North owes a great number of his constituents an explanation as to the reasons why he is re- ported to have voted against a move by the City of Toronto to tax the Royal York Hotel of more than $200,000.00. Mr. Mackenzie, to-gether with 18 or 19 other members has been criticized strongly for his vote because most of them represented ridings outside of the Toronto area. He should remember that many people in -York County commute daily to Toronto and the Metro area to earn their livelihood and could indirectly benefit if Toronto could re- ceive taxes from that hotel in: the amount of over $200,000.00. I do hope Mr. Mackenzie can offer a suitable explanation for his action. Yours truly. John H. Lawrence, 73 Prince George Dr.. Islinzton.
