Council To {Consider Recreation Area Two delegations from the southwestern section of the township waited on Markham Township Council Monday eve- ulna. A. Secord of Elgin Street was spokesman for the first group from the Woodland School dis- trict, which asked for assist- ance in the construction and operation of two outdoor rinks during the winter. Mr. Secord identified himself as rink com- mittee chairman of the home and school of Woodland School, and reported that last winter $250 had been expended on equipment and 25 fathers had given 200 man hours to con- struct and flood the rinks. A pleasure skating rink and a hockey cushion provided pleas- ure for the pupils of Wood- land, hockey leagues and chil- dren from a wide area. so that they were really community rinks. and the work entailed Interest was keen May 4 when the York County 4-H Homemaking Club achievement day was held in Aurora. Four- teen clubs presented exhibits, skits and demonstrations. In addition, each girl in the proj- ect, “What Shall I Wear?" mod- elled her blouse in the fashion parade. A total of 126 club members completed this proj- ect and their books and blouses were on display. York County 4-H Clubs Hold Achievement Day Clubs presenting exhibits were Agincourt, Bogarttown. Buttonville, Nobleton. Queens- viile, Snowball, Vellore and Laskay. Skits and demon- strations were presented by Edgeley, Schomberg, South Vaughan. Teston .Van~ dorf and Temperanceville. The presentations showed the ability these girls have in working to- gether and preparing very in- teresting programs. Mrs. Elton Armstrong, Federated Women's ‘Institutes of Ontario, provincial board director for subdivision 8, presented provincial honor certificates and pins. upon the completion of 12 homemaking club units to Brenda Glover, Bogarttown Club; Sandra Burr, Buttonville Club; Helen Irwin, Nobleton Club, and Donna Seed, Vellore Club. These girls also received copies of the Britan- Mr. Bill Menzies of the Thomhill and District Hockey League reported that 100 boys from that league had used the hockey rink. He stated it was a tremendous asset to the boys in the Thornhlll area. had proved too much for the volunteer help of fathers. Mr. Menzies reported that in the same area 25 teams, in- cludlng 250 boys, will be oper- ating in a softball league this nica Book of the Year. County honors awarded on completion of six 4-H Club homemaking units were presented to 12 clubmembers.
