Karl has been with Trail- ways. who operate the local service for the Town of Rich- mond Hill, for a year and has been driving route one for the past five months. He prefers the local service to driving on‘ the Trailways' Toronto' run which he drove previously. Karl resides -at 38 Trench Street and is a most proficient driver. He was constantly on the alert for children playing on the roads, and happily ex-; changed waved greetings with many children, including‘ his own young son as we pass-‘ ed the intersection of Trench and Richmond. At the corner of Elizabeth and Richmond Street he waited patiently and courteously for a motorist to make a left turn on to Rich- mond. These were ample proof that he deserved all the praise given by the regular patrons of the local bus service. It is our policy to sell only the best obtainable, as it comes in season. Artist To Hold Willowdale Show A fifteen minute lay-over on each run at Richmond Helghtl at present will be cut when the new hospital is in operation. Plans have already been made to provide transportation to the hospital, and this will be welcome news for many citi- zens. Never mind A. Y. Jackson. Matisse or Van Gogh, Mrs. Ernest Sturgeon's favourite ar- tist is her widely-known teach- er. Otto Grebze. She will have a chance to pay tribute to him June 4-22 with her first one-man show of oils and landscapes at the Wil- lowdale Public Library. Mrs. Sturgeon who paints under her maiden name. Paul- ine Fallek, has been a Rich- mond Hill resident for the past five years and in Canada since 1953 when she began painting seriously. Mrs. H. Widomski of 402 Browndale was using the local bus for transportation to and from her doctor's office. “I also read ‘The Liberal.‘ In fact ‘The Liberal' printed .my wed- ding invitations a few years ago. I think this is a wonderful service for the people of Rich- mond Hill. Elderly people can‘t walk very far and need some form of transportation. It is also very helpful to me fur there are no stores around where I live. When I take my two small children shopping with me the drivers always help them on and off the bus." she said. “I‘ve always had a flair for it but not until I studied with Mr. Grebze did I decide I liked his type of work. It‘s repres. entational but modern and his colours are wonderful," she said. Mrs. Sturgeon has exhibited at the Richmond Hill Library and plans to study at the Univ- ersity of Waterloo‘s summer classes at Doone this summer under instructor Carl Schaef- fer. Jim McConvey of North Taylor Mills Drive, speaking for himself and young brother Paul, said they used the bus for shopping and going to school. “I think it is a necess- ity." he said. There are about five students from the same area who travel with us. We think these buses are providing a very necessary service." Postmen ride free on this public transportation since the Post Office Department has as:- reed to pay a flat rate of $600 per annum. Postie Lennox King who boarded the bus at Rich- mond Heights agreed that the bus was a real help in the per- formance of his duties. "The drivers are never in a miser- able mood. They are always cheerful and always have a joke for their patrons.“ ren were not attending school because it was Ascension Day, but approximately 20 students boarded the bus at Bayview. This is the normal number in good weather but when it is raining or on cold winter days as many as 60 have been car- ried from home to school and on the return trip. A regular patron of the local bus service. Mrs. A. M. Colville of 215 Church Street South. and a long- time reader of "The Lib. eral." said, “This bus ser- vice is really an asset. a real help to people in the east end ol’ town particul- arly. We need some means of transportation in Rich. mond Hill. since it has grown so large. The drivers are so obliging. if they see you in the middle of the block they will stop for you.†During my trip on the bus. the truth of this statement was proven many times, with the driver often dropping a passenger off in front of her own door.
