The closing exercises of St. Mary’s Anglican Church school took place last Sunday with a, presentation of certificates, pins and awards. The junior department attended the fam- ily communion service at 9.30 am. at which time the rector presented the various diplomas and awards. At 11 am. service the senior department were present and the awards were presented again, with Michael Haworth receiving the special parish award for general excellence during the year. The preacher for the day was the Rev. Wil- liam Hills of Victoria, B.C. who was visiting the rectory during last week. The LCW of St. Paul‘s Luth- eran Church held their last regular meeting of the season at the home of Mrs. Sylvia Lim- pert, 446 South Taylor Mills Drive with fourteen members present. Mrs. Polly Duefl'ert, Mrs. Ev. Miller and Mrs. Betty Harvey presented a skit for the pro- gramme for the evening. The president wishes the la- dies a restful and happy sum- mer. The next meeting will be held in September. At the final session for the season, Richmond Hill Presby- terian Sunday School presented two workers with gifts in honor of the 152nd anniversary of tile school. Mrs. V. Clayton who has served as a teacher for 12 years, and Miss Sandra Phillips who has served as secretary of the primary division were the honored members of the staff. Attendance awards were pres- ented to members of both the primary and senior schools, and ‘Miss Joy Phillips was present- ‘ed with a diploma for repeating the shorter catechism without error. Magistrate James Butler, former superintendent, spoke to the scholars. Monday, June 17th, marked' the end of a seven week’s swim programme, sponsored by the Richmond Hill YWCA. .After‘ the evening’s swimming les- sons at York Mills Collegiate Pool, 3 late snack was enjoyed by approximatey 35 ladies at the home of Mrs. Grace Jack- son. Discussion about summer swimming programmes for teenage girls brought enthus- iastic response during coffee time and a happy finale to the current swimming course. Sterling silver spoons â€"â€" crafted by Douglas Boyd, were presented to Mrs. Hazel Grif- fiths, swimming instructor and to Mrs. Anne Shubaly, who looked after registration and general information. Mrs. Garson with her wide experience, has, dur- ing the past few years, placed Brian on several television and stage shows, T.V. commercials, and a most thrilling experience â€" he danced with the 801-- shoi Ballet when it came to Toronto this past winter. Mrs. Garson, who can indeed be proud of her pupil’s achievement, ex- tends every good wish for his continued successinthe field of dancing. Brian Toogood, 12 year old son of Mr. a_nd Mrs D. F. Toogood, Rockport Crescent, has been awarded the highest honour in bal- let â€" a life membership with the National Ballet of Canada. Brian, who registered with Sylvia Garson’s Dance Studio only five seasons ago, had had no previous dance training. and intend- ed taking tap. Upon further discussion with Mrs. Garson on the importance of ballet, it was decided that it was an excellent background for the various forms of dan- oing. Dennis Thatcher, Jacey Anne Blvd., will be appearing in the CBC televised serial “Son of a Hundred Kings", which is be- ing filmed now for release in the fall. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Madden entertained at a cocktail party at their Richmond Street home on Friday, prior to attending the Curtain Club picnic at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Hughes, Unionville. The Sunday school of the Richmond Hill United Church held their closing sessions on Sunday last. All departments of ‘he school, as well as the nur- sery, will be closed for the summer months. September 8 is the date for the re-opening. A sight which had not been seen in Richmond Hill for fif- teen years greeted residents who were on Yonge Street at eight o’clock Friday morning - a street car proceeding north. The car which served on the streets of Toronto for many years has been purchased by Mr. Charles Matthews of Lang- staff to add to his collection of seven street cars of all vin- tages, and was being transport- ed to his farm near Lake Sim- coe for storage. Miss Janet Ferguson enter- tained at a supper party on Saturday last at her Elizabeth Street home, prior to leaving this Friday, with her parents, to take up residence in Will- owdale. Her guests included Peggy Hutchison. Jody Loftus, Valer- ie Fenwick, Michelle Water- man, Karen Polanski and Jan- et Bone. Unable to attend was Alice Ziegerhofer. At a baptismal service held at the Church of St. Gabriel on Sunday last the following chil- dren were received in baptism: Karen Elizabeth Hitchinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stan- ley Hitchinson; Timothy James Horgan, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Horgan; Steven James McGuigan, son of Mr. and Mrs. James McGuigan and Ann El- izabeth Pilcher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Pilcher. Mrs. L. V. Adshead, honor- ary regent of the Richmond Hill Chapter of the I.0.D.E. was guest of honour at a pot luck supper held at the home of Mrs. W. Houston on June 10. Mrs. H. Ludlow and Mrs. E. Fletcher were installed as mem- bers of the chapter. Mrs. Scott Ferguson was welcomed as a guest. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. W. J. Entertaining prior to the} wedding last Saturday of Miss Lesley Webb to Brian Mills at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, was the bride’s mother, Mrs. Frank Webb, who held a trous- seau tea at her Longbridge Drive home. Pouring tea were Mrs. A. Mills and Mrs. D. Mills. Assisting the hostess were the bridesmaids, Lorraine Webb, Susan Gillard, Judy Purvis and Ina Lovell. Mrs. W. S. Rothwell, aunt of the bride, entertained the brid- al party at the Summit Golf and Country Club on Friday even- ing, following the wedding re- hearsal at the church. If anyone asks, blue is the summer fashion colour . . . at least in Richmond Hill. At last Tuesday’s Rose Queen Ball at Bayview Secondary School, pert and pretty blonde Donna Cattermole who was chosen Rose Queen wore blue chiffon and her princesses Debbie McConkey and Patsi‘ Higgs were also in lighter shades of the colour. The may- or’s wife, Mrs. William Neal also chose a blue print, Mrs. Donald Plaxton wore a smart peacock blue sheath topped with a fur stole and Mrs. Marâ€" ilyn McCormick was in floating blue chiffon among guests not- ed. Although attendance at the dance didn’t top any records, organizer Doug Boyd looking very handsome in the only white dinner jacket in the crowd, appeared pleased. There were young ladies in the foyer carrying trays of the artificial roses that everyone was sporting here last week. The dance was a very infor- mal one with most of the wom- en in light cotton full-skirted dresses or sheaths topped by stoles or sweaters. Music for dancing was sup- plied by the Novatones although it appeared between late arriv- als and the presentations of the candidates and the crowning of the queen, there was little time left for tripping the light fan- tastic. St. Mary’s Anglican Church‘ parish picnic was held last Sat- urday afternoon at the Albion Hills Conservation area, A large number of parents and children attended as well as the children of the Orange Home, who were adopted for the day by individual family parties. The committee under the di- rection of Don Ross consisted of Mr. and Mrs. William Nid- drie, Mr. William Lennox. Mr. James McRae, and Mr- Donald Fettes. Swimming, games, and refreshments were enjoyed by all. St. Matthew’s United Church Sunday school picnic was held on June 18th at Boyd Conserva- tion area attended by 350 child- ren and mothers. The programme was superâ€"‘ vised by Frank Bailie. who was very ably assisted by Tom Bu- chan and other committee mem bers. Uneeta Joyce and other C.G.I.T. girls looked after the serving of refreshments, Garth Hunter and Dawson Lang had some interesting competitive games for the youngsters. After supper the elders were shown how to play baseball by the boys and girls of the Y.P. and Hiâ€"C groups. The buses re- turned their tireless occupants to the church at 8.45 pm. Mr. and Mrs. Angus Austin of Toronto were entertained at dinner on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday last at the Richmond Hill Golf and Country Club. Attending the celebration were their son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Austin, Leisure Lane, with their two sons, James and Brian, and their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. McLeod, Leaside, with their daughter and son, Judy and Donald. Mrs. Angus Martin was for- merly Miss Florence Osland of Box Grove, Markham. Mrs. C. Brown, Markham Road, left on Saturday to spend the summer months at Belmont Lake, Peterborough. The meeting, their last until September. was convened by the afternoon group. Chief R. P. Robbins and Constable Douglas Young of the Richmond Hill Police Force spoke in turn on the ways in which parents may protect: their children from harm dur- ing the summer months. Both stressed the necessity remind- ing their children constantly of the safety rules taught them in school and of the hazards they should avoid.
