Now of Toron- to Mr. McKenzie taught at Purpleville in 1912-13 and when he called the roll from‘ the old school register of that year, to the delight of all those present, five of his former pupils responded. Rev. Warden Stump recalled for the guests memories of his: school days in this one momed rural school and of his former teachers. At that time he had lived with his grandmother, Mrs. Jane Stump who kept the Purpleville post office and store and was known as the ‘grand old lady of the com- munity.’ As a minister, Mr. Stump is now assisting in the church at Walkerton following years of service at Whitefish Falls. south of Sudbury. Because of the cool wind, the picnic supper was held in the old classroom where much laughter mingled with shouted- grectlngs and the odd brief momentary sadness. as {armor joys and sorrows were remem- bered. His grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bryson. Appreciative thanks wax extended to Mr. Percy Jones. genial local resident. for his thoughtfulness in supplying watermelon and candle to the children. General consensus was that indeed this reunion. on Purplef ville School's 110th anniver- sary. was most enjoyable and all voted to meet again in similar manner in 1968 - if the Ischool, now closed, still stands. On behalf of all, Frank Robson, expressed thanks to those who had attended and' especially for the assistanco‘ given by so many to make “this grand old occasion such a tremendous success." Postscripts I The two people - both ex- pupils who were most respon- sible for the details and arrangements. which amounted to the success of the reunion, Ella Harris and Trank Robson, are both very active and inter- ested in the life and history 01‘ our community, its past, pres- ent and future. His late father, Jas. H. Robson was born on the Roth ‘son farm across from the school (originally bought in‘ 1887 by Samuel Robson - Frank's grandfather) he receiv: ed all his education at Purple. ville School, married and raised a family, who in turn attended SS No. 11 - and main- tained a far-reaching interest and service in the community until his death in May 1962. At the centennial annivers- ary in 1953 Mr. Robson attend- ed as the “oldest pupil that was born in the Purpleville school section and still living there, that attended this school.” As a member of Maple Women's Institute Mrs. Harris, now living in King City and a postal clerk in the Maple Post Office is compiling a detailed history of Vaughan Township. Frank's offices and interest! in and around our area are too numerous and varied‘ to write up here and at this time he is. serving in his second term of office as trustee of the Police Village of Maple. Frank’s aunt Tillie Robson. now Mrs. Robert Kerr had been 10 years old when her family moved to this new farm. Attending the school for I short time she remembers that Robert J. Ross was her teach- er. She is the only survlvlnfl member of Samuel Robson’l family. Further proof of her com- munity interest was evlsloned when Mrs. Peterman stayed overnight with her daughter Mrs. Art Avery, in order to attend the 16th anniversary of Teston Sunday School, on Sunday.
