First there was the first show of the newly~formed Toronto Area Regional Group of the Canadian Iris Society held in conjunction with the local iris show. There was an excellent showing of bloom and color by the iris group which was judged by Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Richardson of Hamilton, and Mrs. W. H. Harris of the East York Horticultural Society. How this garden has devel- oped ftom an old quarry and gravel pit is a fascinating story. Mr. Laking emphasized the point that the gardens are much more than simply a beau- ty spot. They have an educati- onal aspect as well as showing the best varieties of shrubs, flowers and trees that may be grown in the region. There is also a section for juniors where young people learn how to plan. plant and care for various types of gardens. There were numerous ideas for home gard- eners. such as seeding Mich- aelmas daisies in the tulip bed. and the color slides were sim- ply gorgeous. Mr. Laking was introduced by R. D.
