The well-laid plans of men and the house they were try~ ing to move Tuesday afternoon suddenly went astray at Yonge and Elgin Mills when a centre- beam on the home carrying truck snapped sending the house sagging forlornly to the street. House Falls, Halts Traffic Driver Ralph Harrison, of Harrison Building Movers. Mount Albert, managed to save some of the day by pulling the heavily-ladened tractor off busy Yonge onto Elgin Mills before operations came to a halt. Traffic along Elgin Mills was held up or slowed to a crawl for almost two hours as police tried to keep traffic flowing re1~ atively free around the uncom- fortably-lookinv house. "I was standing on the roof of the house when it happen- ed," commented Frank Grab- archuk, of Frank’s Movers and Storage, 28 Industrial Road, owner of the six-room clap- board constructed bungalow. For the next hour and a half things‘were in a state of hur- ried confusion, Mr. Grabarchuk stated, as equipment was brought in to restore the house to its‘ former position. “We were moving it from our property on Industrial along Yonge to Elgin Mills North. We were half way there when it happened. I was on top of the roof trying to lift the cable to clear the hydro static line when the house dropped. It was quite a jolt.” “We were forced,” he said, “to go to Oak Ridges for a new centre beam and that consum- ed some time." The centre beam arrived and the expedition once more mov- ed elephant-like down Elgin Mills. All was now well but it took a while for it to be that way. What should have been a one hour trip took five hours and several headache cures to ac- complish. To replace the centre beam cost $500. Newmarket will start off the second half of its year on a firm financial footing, accord- ing to a report. Largest expenditure was ed- ucation for a sum of $222,096 of which the high school ex- propriated more than $135,000; public and separate schools re- ceived $111,000 and $11,000 re- spectively. Waterworks revenue was $45,400 compared to $42,200 paid out OLFERT. We've changed to‘ blue. Don and Dorrene have son!
