Gord Woolnough, Robbie Clephor, Doug Webster. Mike Dempsey, Larry Mansbridge, Chris Strothers and John Ranieri were singled out for a pat on the back. Jveryone who made the trip to Preston thor- oughly enjoyed the day. The Preston people evidently enjoyed having them and the invitation to return next year has already been extended. The kids are good ambassadors! Mike Parrett, Ralph Davies and Jim Mansbridge took the peewee team to the North York tournament. In the first game they defeated Avenue Road 16-5 but ran into grief in the second game against Sim- coe. For five innings they were demoralized by a side winding pitcher with an illegal delivery. He was derricked by the umpires in the fifth but the damage was done and the team never did get untracked It’s taken a long time and a lot of organizing to get the R.H.M.B.A. to the point where these tourn- ament junkets are possible. If it weren’t for solid par- ental support the trips just wouldn’t happen at all. Someone said that one of the requirements to be a champion at anything was to be born to the right kind of parents. Seems like there are lots of the right kind around Richmond Hill this year! As a‘ souvenir of the day each young play- er received a North York Softball A$ociation pennant. And if you think a pennant isn’t a big deal for any kid then have another think! To add frost- lng to the cake it was Judd'l single in the second inning that drove‘ in the winning run. Twenty of the twenty eight Markham batters went down via the strikeout route. Lefty Ellis pitched Well for Markham and gave up six scattered hits. Jeweller cat- cher Ken Coultes. out of the line up for nearly four weeks with a hand injury, regained his batting eye by pounding out two singles. Judd, Hugh: es, Station and Robson each had singles. Bay- view Plaza BA. and “The Liberal" were tied at the end of the specified time necessitating the composite team. Coach Andy Murphy of the BA. squad and Coach N. Lewis of “The Liberal” team were faced with a minor problem. Which team's sweaters would be worn? The toss of a coin decided the issue and the team will be wearing the Liberal livery. a routine single but the jet propelled Burns turned it into a standup double. Cen- tre field ace Freddy Thomas followed with a single to scoot Burns across the plate for the only run of the game. In the third inning Burns found the range on one of Ray .ludd's bewildering slants and poked the ball into left field it looked like Dynes mounted their biggest Mr. Babcock emphasizes that this plan is purely ex- perimental. If it works out as he hopes far more students will benefit from a sane and sound sport- ing program.
