His night of grief was not yet over by a long: shot. He was involved in a collision at the plate with Ray Judd. took a knee in the side of the jaw and, for at least three minutes was right out of this world. When he regained consciousness he was carried to the Aurora bench and. after a brief rest, came back in to finish catching the game. It didn’t make him gun shy either - he hung in there to the bitter end. ‘ What his mother calls him we wouldn’t know - he just says to call him Skeeter. But one thin}.r we do know he’s all heart and a real team player. So forthwith a big tip of the hat to a real compet- Skeeter has been a real sparkplug for the Aurora group and provided some steady, heady backstopping. He is possessed of a good strong throwing arm and a real burning desire to see his team win. He proved it all in one game. At least three times in the game he got his fing- ers sprained on foul tips. To add insult to injury he also got a foul tip in the groin that sounded like some- one beltir‘g' a side of beef with a Sledgehammer. And still he came backrfor more. .But win, lose or draw we’d like to say a big thank you to the Jewellers and to Vern Dynes for making it a most interesting season. Softball was fairly big in this area before this year but it has boomed as never before. It is our sincere hope that Vern Dynes, Ray Judd and company are around for a good many years to come. They’re good for the game and that‘s real good for the fans! “SKEETER” HILL 0F AURORA Spectators who saw the Dynes Jewellers game against Aurora last week not only saw a ball game, but something else as well. “Skeeter” Hill a slender, bespectacled young catcher came up with what has to be the gamest individual performance of the sea- son. Money raised from this game goes to support the United Ap- peal. It‘s a panic to watch and the giggling and squealing from the huddles makes one wonder how they even get a play sort- ed out. Maybe that's the secret of the game’s appeal. Nobody REALLY knows what it's all abouU Thornhill's senior football team was given a rude awaken- ing last week as Upper Canada dumped them. 8-0. in an exhi- bition football game. A listless Thornhill attack and equally listless defense was taken by surprise by Upper Canada. By the time Thornhill had learned that the name of the game was football it was much. much too late.
