On behalf of a local company, Mr. McEl- hinney presented a $25 citi- zen award to Sharon Hills {or maintaining good stand« ing. her participation in projects and as all-round good classmate. Former grade 8 teacher Mrs. D. Wardiner and Mr. Myers presented the graduates with their pins and Mr. Peck, on be- half of the club gave a pin to Mr. Myers as a token of his founding of the group and his share in its success. October 2 was a special even- lng for 16th Avenue School when for the second consecu- tive year, the Home and School Association held a graduation banquet. A resident of Richmond Hill for the past four years, Mr. Danny J. Powell has been ap- pointed general manager of the Jamaica Industrial Devel- opment Corporation based in Kingston. Jamaica, and has al- ready left to take up his duties in that city. Resident Goes To A Jamaica Post Mr. Powell, who was born in Jamaica, was educated in the Bahamas and the United States whene he studied at St. John’s College in Minnesota and Loy- ola University in Chicago, Mrs. Powell and children, Yolanda 8% and Danny Jr. 5%, will join him in Kingston in the near future. While in Rich- mond Hill they have resided at 407 Wenlock Avenue. Mr. McElhinney. a graduate of North York Collegiate is presently studying at the Uni- versity of Toronto. He taught at Thornhill for the old Markham- Vaughan area and was president of the Vaughan Teachers' As- sociation. These include Miss M. Cow- an, kindergarten; Mrs. C. Drew- ry. Erade 1 and 2 teacher; Mrs. A. Van Loon, grade 3 and 4: Mr. C. Morrison, grade 5 and 6 and Mrs. J. Arnott, grade 7 and 8‘ where he majored in econom~ ics. He brings a wealth of ex» perience to his new position, having been Canadian director of the corporation since 1959,‘ and assistant manager in the‘ New York office for; four years prior to that time. Before join-‘ ing the corporation he had been employed by the Common- wealth Development Corpor- ation of London, England, as a promotion expert, and was based in British Honduras. principal Mr. Douglas McElhin- ney who in turn introduced the school staff.
