Binnington took charge of the meditation period. She used Psalm 103 and men- tioned that it was about 3,000 years old and one of the noblest of sacred poems. This poem contains many familiar sacred sayings emphasizing the rela~ tionshlp to and communion with God. It tells of His patience, His forgiveness, His mercy and judgments. It is a song of praise, and from this poem Henry Francis Lyte was in- spired to write our often used beautiful hymn. Praise My Soul. Two years ago a new project was started in the Fred Victor Mission and a letter from the church welfare department was read asking for good used clothâ€" ing and shoes, preferably in large sizes for men and women, also for used repairable furni- ture and household equipment. The mission now has six physio ally handicapped persons em- ployed to restore the donations and sell them. A motion was passed that a collection be made the week of November 25 and the mission be asked to pick up on the 27th. There will ‘be some one at the church ‘school to receive the articles. Mrs. S. Rumble spoke on the' work of the church for senior citizens. She used a specific case and told a poignant story of great loneliness that is the‘ lot of older people whose con? temporaries have died or moved away to be with their families.‘ With limited income, often no. more than the pension. many of these people will not mingli' with groups because of pride. They are unable to hold up their end of group responsibili. ties and so they sit alone with dreams gone and happy mem- ories worn thin. There was a‘ happy ending in this case this senior citizen found a haven in a United Church Senior Home where he had companionship. well-balanced meals, and a {eel- ing of comfort and security. The United Church has 18 of these homes with approximately 650 senior citizens. Local boards and auxiliaries share the rev sponsibilities of administering these projects. Mrs. Cummer Lee. convenor for the evening. presented a film strip, "The Reason for Being". Four groups retired for a buzz session.
