Site Close To Town Limits In our issue of June 29, 1961 we reported tht the trustees had selected a site in Vaughan Town- ship close to Richmond Hill town limits. The site selected and purchased after months of study and negotiation is on the Don Head Farms, owned by the Redelmeier family and located on Maple sideroad just west of town border. The site contains 15 acres and has a frontage of 500 on Vaughan Road and .a depth of 1300 feet. There is a beautiful view from the site and the nearby woods provide a parklike background and create an atmosphere of beauty and tranquility Second to none according to many who have visited the new hospital. Mrs. W. P. Telt‘ord of Owen Sound, then president of the Hospital Auxiliaries Association of Ontario was guest speaker at the annual meeting of the local hospital association and told of the important work done throughout the province by the auxiliaries. Editorially in our issue of June 29 we suggested the need for the organization of an auxiliary here. Our editorial of that date in part: “York Central Hospital Association is making a notable and necessary contribution to our commu- nity in planning and building a new hospital. The program needs the very necessary help and support of a hospital ausiliary. There is need for such an organization and we are conï¬dent the women of this district will respond with enthusiasm to provide the proposed new hospital with one of the best auxiliaries in Ontario". Little by little and step by step things were shaping up to the point where one day the new hospital would be opened. On August 3. 1961 we reported the appointment of Garry J. Chatï¬eld as administrator. satisfaction of all in the hospital association was expressed by Chairman Storms who ‘said “this is a great step forward, and our hospital is no longer a dream but a reality." On October 12 1961 Chairman Storms reported that plans for the projected hospital had gone to the Ontario Hospital Services Commission for approval. Once approved they would be submitted to the Ontario Municipal Board. Tuesday November 14, 1961 was a red letter day on the calendar of hospital progress. On that date York County Council gave final approval to the bylaw authorizing financial aid. Gratitude and Keen public interest in the proposed new hospital was demonstrated when on Tuesday Ja- nuary 30, 1962 despite snowblocked roads and poor driving conditions more than 400 people gathered in the Lions Hall to discuss formation of a hospital auxiliary. Guest speaker was Mrs. C. W. Sheridan of Ottawa. Mrs. R. J. Miller was elected president and a live and thriving organization in support of hospital work was officially launched. Never have they failed to measure up to the needs of the time and we have every conï¬dence the hospital drive will be successful. The new hospital so far has been successful due to the hard work of the sponsors, the fine co-operation by members of the medical profession, the York County Council, Ontario Hos- pital Commision, local municipal leaders and officials and the good-will and support of citizens throughout the district. We are sure this same fine spirit of co-operation will continue until the final completion of the project and that the people will respond generously to the financial appeal.†.
