In Southern Ontario Scotch pine, a fast growing spe- rim with many excellent qual- ities, nou-a-days is the tree most commonly used. In recent years tree growers are paying mtich more attention to pruning and shaping trees to meet preâ€" sent~day standards and market requirements. Thousands of trees are already on display at establishments throughout the area for early customers. Bringing a tree inside. in higher temp- eratures. will cause it to again ,resume its transpiration pro- messes which soon use up the ,moisture in the cells. The life 10f a tree can be preserved. to Isome extent. by making a fresh cut in the butt and by keeping ‘it in a pail of water, stored in a cool place until you put it up inside the home. Once erected it is wise to keep the butt im- mersed in a dish or pan of water. keeping the water level up daily. Some people have al- so found it beneficial to add a concentrated sugar solution to the water supply. Among other safety precau- tions. be sure to place the tree as far away as possible from fire or other sources of heating. Also check the wiring carefully to eliminate any faulty electric- al connections. Never use candles. which so many times in the past have resulted in costly fires.
