Thornhill fought back in handy fashion before the period ended with Duke Knox blink- ing the red light on two occa- sions to tighten the game. Ron Browne tied it up at 3-3 at the 3:07 mark only to see Downsview jump back into the lead on Boucher’s third goal of the night at 11:48. It was shortly after this that the roof came crashing down as Thornhill tied it on a goal by Roly Fritz, went ahead on Stamp’s first marker, and pro- ceeded to rap in six more goals in the final period. Downsview could only manage two. Stamp with two, Browne with two, and Brian Groundsell and Fritz with one apiece. Roly Ro- chon added Downsview's final two goals. The Willowdale game saw the Rangers jump into an early 2-1 lead over Newmarket and never look back. Wally Stothers opened the scoring in the first period on an assist from Harry Fiskari at 4:51 and Gary Durie made it 2-0 at 6:06 on passes from Gord Currie and Brian Turner. Pete Lacey narrowed the margin for Newmarket at 17:30 on a set-up by Greg Scott, The middle period saw one goal scored as Willowdale’s Fiskari popped the puck behind goalie Ken Burke. Paul Jackson paced the T & C squad with two goals as Jack Dubkowski, Craig Dun- nett and Bruce Sim scored single goals. Dave Day, Roger Ball and George Shepherd were credited with assists. Last Friday night the Town and Country crew defeated Woodbridge by a 3-0 score in a dull, lacklustre game. Paul Jackson kept up his goal scoring streak as he countered twice for the local squad with George Shepherd scoring the third goal. Dave Day and Shepherd were given assists on the scor- ing plays. Tomlinson and Arnold were the Nobleton marksmen. Minor Hockey Play The C.F.G.M. Radio Kids took a 4-0 pasting from the Leam- ington squirt team in an ex- hibition set-to at Leamihgton last Saturday. Coach Ray Brooks was short one defence? stalwart, Joe Ranieri and was forced to juggle his lines in order to hold the Leamington team. Coach Brooks had praise for the way in which Dave Addley tended goal for the C.F.G.M. squad and feels that despite the score the team played well under the circum- stances prevailing. Following the game all players were served at a luncheon with each young man receiving a souvenir of Leamingtou. The Lea- mlngton team is scheduled to journey to Richmond Hill on February 9 for a The Town and County juvenile hockey team have won ten straight starts in North York League action this year. They are the only team in their division of the league who have not yet tasted defeat. Coach Bill Points and Manager Marsh Amos seem to be blessed with a great amount of hockey talent and are making no mistakes in their guid- ance of the team. The chairman of the Richmond Hill Parks Board is most concerned about complaints relayed to him about the use of outdoor rinks. It’s the age old complaint of hockey players ignoring the ad- jacent hockey cushion and proceeding to play a bit of shinny on the surface set aside for pleasure skating. 0n the face of things it’s an innocent enough pastime but it can and sometimes does have serious consequences. A lot of the smaller set have just had their very first set of skates delivered by Santa Claus. These tots are just learning to stagger around on the blades and are often concentrating so hard upon keeping their balance that they have not time to duck hockey sticks and pucks. Chances are that the ones scrambling around playing shinny COULD avoid the smaller children if they weren’t diverted by chasing a puck. Sometimes the combi- nation of the two sets on the same ice surface leads to disaster. A small child can be knocked to the ice with somewhat painful results or can be clipped with a flying puck or carelessly wielded stick. Facial scars, chipped teeth or even worse can be the end result of what should be a healthy, happy skating expedition. If you have a young hockey player in your house who likes to go and play on the local rink, won’t you please check with him just to be certain he plays hockey on the hockey cushion and NOT on the pleasure rink. You will be doing yourself, your young hockey player and possibly some other child a great service. Isn’t it worth it?? A BIG THANK YOU TO WORKS DEPARTMENT A big tip of the hat to the Richmond Hill Works Department boys. New year’s day saw an awfully big pile of that fleecy white stuff dumped on the surrounding terrain. Before it could become a real problem hard working members of the works department were out with huge plows and got roads cleared for motorists. And that goes for the smallest side street in the town! And all this happened while the average citizen was snuggled up nice and cozy With a T.V. set and a hot chocolate?? â€" watching one of the day’s various bowl games. Even if we did get almost three feet shoved into our driveway entrance they still deserve a hearty vote of thanks” MARDI GRAS THEME FOR BAYVIEW DANCE Ever had the urge to go to New Orleans at Mardi Gras time â€" or maybe return to your high school days?
