As proof of this our president, Fank Barrott has again had his thinking cap on and presented the meeting with an original proposal for another "first". He suggested that for the first time in Canada a “junior auxiliary" be formed, attached to branch 375. The proposed auxiliary to be made up from boys between the ages of 14 and 20. it would be run on Legion principles. would elect its own officers for executive and committees. wear the same Legion dress and be afforded all the help and guid- ance it requires from a volun- teer senior committee. A motion put before the meeting was car- ried unanimously. and the show of hands for a volunteer com- mittee on the subject was very good. We will now await the decisions of this committee and hope to have more detailed in- formation on the subject very soon. The last general meeting held on September 21 proved full of surprises for everyone. We had the privilege of listening to Mr. Jack Hackett, Zone “E" commander, who paid a surprise visit to the branch and gave us an account of the happenings at the recent legion convention in Winnipeg. It was gratifying to hear that the heckling Prime Minister Pearson received at that convention was greatly ex- aggerated in the press, and that he himself had counted only 12 hecklers. After hearing Jack Sander’s report as chairman of the hospital committee, com- mander Hackett congratulated the branch as being one of the healthiest in the country. On a question raised by one of those members recently tak- ing a swim across the parking lot on Legion Court when it rained. We were informed that the catch basin there didn’t lead anywhere. As the catch basin is Legion property it was suggest- ed we put some willing hands to work to effect a remedy. Un- fortunately it appears that no one, as yet, has donated us a storm sewer. The matter has been raised with the town works department. and we hope to have some word from Mr. Wha- len in the near future. Everyone at the meeting must have wondered at the pre- sence of a handsome 23 inch T. V. set sitting up front with the executive. Maybe we were to get to watch the ball Eame if the meeting grew dull. We soon found out that this was a donation from Richmond Hill TV. for our club room. Judging from the applause re- ceived, this gift was well ap- preciated. (By the way. did you see the picture on the front page of last week's “Liberalâ€.) “Where are patent shoes?" the shaggy little slippers asked the tired, scuffed oxâ€" lords. "They aren’t going to live here anymore." oxfords an- swered. “We heard Penny's mother say that this would "That means she‘ll be out- growing us all, soon," said ballerina slippers. Three weeks went b.V. One night. after one of Penny‘s parties. patent lea- ther shoes didn‘t come back when she did. (Continued From Page 2) Huddled together. they crept back into the darkest corner at the top of the bed. They were very ashamed of themselves. What if patent shoes were right? What if Penny never wore them again? That would be the worst thing that could hap- pen to them! The next morning. the lit- tle slippers waited anxious- ly. to see if Penny would wear them as usual. They could hear her pull back the covers. Then her feet land- ed on the floor in front of them. Would she wear them? they wondered. Pen- ny's hands reached down and they were being put on her feet! She had forgiven them. They would never try to make Penny dance again! “Penny is starting to grow on us," they announced sad- ly. "Her toes nearly came to the end of us today." One night as they all were talking over the day's events, the patent shoes were un- usually quiet. “Why are you so quiet, patent shoes?" the oxford: asked them. Then it happened! It was just two weeks after the pa- tent leather shoes had left. Penny was putting the little slippers on, her toes came right to the end of them and she had to struggle to get them up over the backs of her heels. “How many times do I have to tell you?
