November 8 Plans A “Remembrance Day Flag" featuring a red pop- py on a white background with the words “Lest We Forget” is flying this week from the flagstaff in front of Richmond Hill Municipal Building. This flag will serve to remind citizens that this Thursday and Fri- day night and all day Sat- urday poppies of remem- brance will be sold in Rich- mond Hill and vicinity. It will also serve as a reminder that Sunday af- ternoon the Town of Rich- mond Hill will. in a service of remembrance. honor its citizens who in two world wars paid the supreme sac- rifice for their country. Speaker for the service at the cenotaph in front of the McConaghy School on Yonge Street South will be Capt. Fred Woodcock of the Canadian National ln- stitute of the Blind. Capt. Woodcock has a reputation as an excellent speaker and will bring a stirring ad- dress in keeping with the meaning of this day of re- membrance. He will also participate in the parade and salute following the service. The opening remarks will be given by Mayor Thomas Broadhurst and Councillor Mrs. Lois Hancey will read the list of those depositing wreaths on the memorial. Thornhaven The lesson will be read by Rev. F. F. Bennett of St. John's Baptist Church and prayers will be said by Rev. R. E. McLennan of St. Gab- riel Anglican Church with Rev. James O‘Neil pro- nouncing the benediction. Mr. O’Neil is chaplain of the Royal Canadian Legion and rector of St. Mary‘s Anglican Church. A parade or Legionnaires. members of the local coun- cil and representatives of other groups will form up at Richmond Heights Plaza at 2:15 p.m. Heading the parade this year will be 12 men of the color guard. These are the only party in the dis- trict to be fully uniformed in military-style. equipped with rifles and who have achieved perfection in their drill. according to Legion President Frank Barrett. The color guard will be accompanied by its mascot and an armed guard will be mounted at the ceno- taph in front of McConaghy Public School during the service.
