What with trying to dodge flying missiles from wee George’s weapon arsenal and trying to dress Mom like little sister’s newest status symbol dollâ€"- the old man is in for a pretty thin Christmas. If he doesn’t die a raving psycho from being shot at he’ll do 3 Steve Brody off the Mill Pond bridge in order to avoid the disgrace of complete and utter financial ruin. With a family like this who needs, or can afford enemies?? All kidding to one side, Christmas is one very fine time of the year. Sure Dad may be bruised and battered in body and pocketbook but don’t worryâ€"he’ll convince himself he’s happy. And who really knowsâ€"maybe the kid WILL become a great military strategist, or brain surgeon, maybe even a weatherman like Percy Saltzman! Could be little sister will learn enough nursing to grab off a fat part on a medical show one day. Who REALLY knows for sure? But please Santa Claus, whatever happened to sleighs, cowboys and Indians, mah jong and all that jazz? Is it really dead? By the way Mr. Claus, what is that clenched in your chubby fist? A real genuine, imitation scale model derringer? Thank goodness the kids have really forgotten the Old West and the saloons and the gambler’s derringerâ€"that gesto'r'es our faith in Christmas if nothing else oes... RICHMOND KILL HIGH Junior and senior basketball Little girls’ toys are different? Sure they are! They’ve got nursing kits to help little brother while he trephines his sleeping pater. THAT’S how dif- ferent girls’ toys are! Even dolls are different. They now look like Beatles or Sophia Loren. The latter type comes complete with wardrobe, beach house, villa in Naples, 3 Jaguar and a boy friend that looks like Rock Hudson or Rip Torn or anyhow somebody!! All optional extrasâ€"of course. Dolls that don’t have all this going for them can talk, add, make speeches, bake cakes and run for political office. The good, vapid looking, old fashioned baby doll that said “mama†is now as ex- tinct as the carrier pigeon. ‘ (Continued from Page 13) Garand rifles, rubber bayonets that have a wicked, deadly sheen, helmets, ponchos, gas masks, jet pilot helmets, machetes and all those quaint and dainty toys designed to appeal to the hearts of all tender little innocents. Fidel Castro should have been so lucky!!! You want your own Cape Kennedy complete with Atlas, Redstone and Thor missiles? Only too easyâ€"just pick them out from the rest of the toys and hand themâ€"and your credit card â€"to that sweet old Whistler’s Mother-type over there. Home may never be the same but after all, it IS Christmas!! And let us not forget the educational toys! A junior starter surgery kit complete with artificial brain? Don’t worry darling, Daddy will be home soon and he’d just love to play with you !! You want to make an atom bomb? So okay let’s buy a chem- istry set or, better still let’s build a weather station and outguess the Dominion weather bureau. Good and accurate weather predictions will help you plan the best time to invade those nice next door neigh- bors. Boy! Will they be surprised! Teams- Richmond Hill Dynes . . Sprinkler System In Arena Recommended Richmond Hill Council's ï¬nance committee Monday evening recommended to the 1965 council that an al- lowance be put in next year's budget for a sprink- ler system in the arena. Deputy - reeve Stanley Tinker. answering a ques- tion by Mayor Thomas Broadhurst as v to what prompted this recommen- dation, said that savings in insurance payments would pay off the cost of this equipment in a short time. Reeve James Haggart re- ported the period would be about four or five years, reporting that with a sprin- kler system the three-year premium is actually less than the present yearly rate in the unsprinklered building. The reeve went on to note that with a sprinkler system there is a good chance of localizing a blaze if one should break out. As it stands now, if a ï¬re broke out the entire arena would be lost, he cautioned. “Another arena is a long way away,†the deputy- reeve added. “If we lase the only one we have we would be without artiï¬c- ial ice for winter recrea- tion programs."
