THE LIBERAL, Richmond Hill. Ontari T o Honour Senior Sixer WA. Do/ierty, Marc/1 I Dominion Scout head- quarters has announced that a ’fhornhill boy. Wil- liam Albert Doherty of the. Int. 'l‘hornhill Scout Troop has received a “letter of commendation for meri- torious conduct.“ On July 20 last summer. Bill saw two-yearâ€"old Wendy Holton fall off a marina dock into the Tal- hot River. Bill yelled at the little girl's father and at the same time. ran along the dock. reached over and caught hold of the child's clothing. turnlng‘ her over from her face-down posi- tion and held her until her father reached her and lifted her to the dock. Bill was 10 years old at the time. The commendation will be presented to Senior Six- er Doherty at 'l‘hornhill United Church. March 1. Along with the letter of commendation. he will re- ceive a letter of congratu- lation from Chief Scout the Right Honorable Geor- ges P. Vanier and from Deputy (‘bief Scout L. H. Nicholson. Bill is a grade 7 student at Langstaff Public School. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Doherty. 77 Ri- verside Blvd. 'l‘hornhill Mr. Doherty is the general manager of the Beamish Construction Company and an active member of the Thornhill Lions Club. Taylor's Jewellers New Store Creates Illusion People going into 'I‘aylor's‘ Jewellers new store at 23 Yongei Street s.. will probably findi themselves buying more and seeing less. However. paradoxically ough. they will probany they are seeing more “All our customers come in and say we've got more stock." said Charles Taylor who just recently switched from his old location at 16A Yonge Street North. It's not true. though. The. store has less, with five feweri glass display counters and one 9l1-‘ feel. less four-foot counter. all arrayâ€"i0! Centre Street is changing to. ed in an area of '23 feet by 251 feet. compared with their for-l mer store, which had a 15-footi frontage and a length of' 50 feet. ‘ it was this latter measure-1 ment that sometimes discour-l aged customers at the other‘; store. while helping to create! the illusion that the new store‘ is better stocked. “They used to walk up to the third counter and then stop." said Mr. Taylor. Now with everything ltlot‘ei compactly arranged in the small-I er area. customers find them- selves browsing over most oft the store‘s merchandise andi not just over one specific item.. To Mr. and Mrs. Taylor. who along with their son. spent all1 one day and night. and part of. the next day. moving into their; new location, it was like com-i log home. again. For Customers When Mr. ’l‘aylor first got into the jewellery business it was in 1953 with Jewellers. which was located on the north side of Woolworth's Store on Yonge Street. Now. after a move to the north part of Yonge Street to start his own store. Mr. Taylor is back next door to Woolworth’s again. only this time on the south side. And he looks upon it as a .Eood omen. "There seems to be a resur- gence back to the centre of town." said Mr. Taylor. "North and retail professional. has moved commercial while the back." This was the main reason Mr. Taylor moved to his present sunny location. And so far. the comments of his many custom- ers and a local dentist have been proof that he's done the right thing. The ctlstomei‘s' comments have ranged from terrific to wonderful. while the dentist’s was more on the aesthetic side and caused the owners the most joy. The dentist. who had been considering moving into the building himself. had this to say after seeing the newly-re- novated premises: “I‘m glad I didn't move in now. It's much too beautiful." To the Taylors. that was one of the things that has made it all worthwhile. Armstrong's. 0. Thursday. Feb. 25. 1965 (.‘Iarence Steckie mlmity centre.
