I Mr. Peirce described the operation inside the plant as unique in Canada. but a much larger operation has been carried on in Dallas for the past three years. The storage outside the build- ing. however, is not unique, he claimed, and later Mr. Colquhoun of Canadian Ll- quid Air listed Several sim- ilar installations used by other companies in other processes. Mr. Peirce dis- played a large photograph of his company's Dallas plant showing the close proximity of the hydrogen WANTED Mr. Colquhoun described the safety features of the trailer and showed the safety valve He denied any p055ibility 0f the trailer or tubes exploding, when questioned by Chairman Jackman. and said that since hydrogen is only one-fifteenth as heavy as air, the gas goes upward rapidly and if ignited the flames would go upward. He described the rapidity with which a hydrogen-filled meteor- ological bailoon rises as a good example of the speed at which pioneers to have a Lutheran congregation here. The Luther- an congregation in Maple and Unionville are over 150 years old. The congregation at Richâ€"| mond Hill, St. Paul's, was or-‘ ganized in 1962. Largest of all Protestant churches in the world with over 72 million ad-l herents, the Lutheran church incorporates people of every race and language in every land. Pastor and Mrs. Weigel took‘ up residence at 24 Orlon Cres- cent, Richvaie. in June. Since that time. Pastor Weigel has been engaged in a house-to- house survey in order to dis- cover persons who are interest- ed in the discussion of the Christian faith and in the estab- lishment of a Lutheran con- gregation. The population being surveyed resides in the area bounded by Leslie Street, Steel- es Avenue, Bathurst Street and Carrville Road. Pastor Weigel reports that the results of the survey com- pleted to date are indeed grati- fying. There are many families in this area who desire the ser- vices of the Lutheran Church and who are eagerly looking forward to the organization of a congregation. Members who have agreed to serve on the planning committee for the mis- sion are: William Miller. Peter Allen and James Dunbar. A worship workshop will be held at 24 Orlon Crescent to- night tThursday) at 8.00 pm. All those wishing to familiarize themselves with the Lutheran worship service are cordially in- vited to atend. Mr. Post replied that four people are employed in the operation at the moment. They were hired in Richmond Hill and sent to Dallas to work for lwo months under men who have worked in this operation for the past three years. Besides this. he reported. each operator has at. his work station a set of written operating instructions which he must follow. “There has been no incident in Dallas." he declared. “which has caused any loss of time by men or machinery." Mr. Brown told the (Tom- mittee of Adjustment that although all are agreed that every safety precaution will be taken, hydrogen is a highly explosive and dan- gerous gas. He presented the committee with what he termed "an authoritative piece of paper" which dcs- crihed hydrogen as a flam- mable and explosive gas. Texas Instrument repre- sentatives claimed this was a zeneralization taken from a book which was written primarily to outline the toxicity of chemicals. Mr. Brown presented a petition opposing, the application which bore the signatures of 35 of 40 ratepayers ap- proached by him. The, chairman of the public school board reported the board had been naturally quite con- cerned over the proximity of the installation to Walter Scott School. "While as a trustee I feel there is still an area of concern. personally I believe the hazard we are exposed to here is no greater than the hazards we are exposed to with‘ gasoline and propane trueks passing even closer to the school. We have expressed a concern for the safety of the‘ children. The decision is yours: to make,” he told the commit-. Hutchinson added he‘ tee. Mr. felt if the application were ap proved, a good fence should be required. Mr. Meisner objected strongly to the installation because of its proximity to the school and the residential area. “I feel there is. still a danger." he said adding that this also was the stand of the Citizens” Safety Committee. Mr. .Iackman read a let- ted from the Citizens' Safe~ ty Committee opposing the application, and one from the fire chief. Chief Alf Stone stated substantial Submitted to planning: hoard by Vroom Construction of Wondbridze the proposal was for 36 one acre lots. each served by a private well and septic tank.
