Mkm Twp Vetoes Flag Day Holiday Markham Township Council Monday afternoon agreed to make March 27 (Easter Mon- day) a holiday in the township. but turned down a request from Ancaster Township Council to institute another holiday. The resolution from Ancas- ter called for the proclaiming of the Monday nearest to Feb- ruary 15 as Flag Day. to be ob served as a holiday throughout Canada. In its letter to council, the Ancaster .group said February 15 was the anniversary of Can- ada‘s new flag. and suggested the day be set aside for a pro- gram of winter sports in Can- ada. The resolution will be sent to Prime Minister Lester Pearsoni Councillor Allan Sumner moved that council back the resolution, but failed to receive a seconder. Both Deputy-reeve S. J. Gadsby and Councillor Anthony Roman were absent from council. Council also: Received a let- ter from York Central District High School Board setting out its proposed budget for 1967, and moved that it be received for study. MiSS Anderson completed a fiveâ€" month specialized course in Bible instruction and mission- ary training and is being sent to Venezuela in South America on special assignment. During the course academic studies included a chapter-by- chapter study of the Bible, the relation of world history to his- tory of the Bible as well as Bible-teaching techniques. A very practical feature of the missionary training was intens- ive instruction in Spanish, ‘French. Portuguese, Korean or Chinese. These studies were shared by a class of 103 selected ministers of Jehovah‘s Witnes- ses from 12 lands, who are now equipped to take their mission [of peace to 29 different lands gto which they have been assign- Ied.
