Chairman Mrs. Mil- dred Toogood advised at a reâ€" cent meeting of the 'I‘SA 2 board that the Markham board was not contemplating any new; high school construetion within: the next five years and thenl only an addition to its present. school would be needed. As a result. 'l‘SA 2 trustees. have agreed to proceed with negotiations for a school site on Concession 7 of the town- ship. north of Highway 7 on the Markham Village boundary line, where municipal water and sewers would be easily acâ€" cessible. Land in this area would be much less expensive than serviced land at L'nion- ville. Plans for the school. which are being drawn up by archi- tects Hicks. Marsh and Mcâ€" Lean. will include 16 home rooms, with possible expansion to 20; special rooms for science.‘ art. music. library. general purpose, guidance. home eco- nomics. industrial arts and health. Wide Variety Of Outside Groups‘ Use High Schools A comprehensive report of use of York Central District‘s: five high schools by outside1 organizations was presented at a recent meeting of the board’s property and planning commit? tee. A new- policy respecting use; of the isCltools was adopted Jan- uary 30 of this year. This per- mitted more organizations to use: the schools. eliminated rentall fees for some and lowered them“ for others. That this has re-1 sulted in more frequent use of the schools was indicated by the figures in the report. pre~‘ pared by Business Adminis-l trator George Tindal. In all of 1966 for instanced outside groups used the schools 247 times. a total of 891 hoursg while from January 1 to June 30. 1967 the Schools were usedl almost as much as for the en-i tire year previous. 210 times! for 699 hours. The lowered fee structure produced rentals of only $5501 for the first six months of thisl year. compared to $2.398 for all! of 1966. During the first six months of this year. the schools were? also used after hours 256 times.l for a total of 996 hours fort student activities such as danc-’ es. drama nights. parents' nights sports events. etc. Outside organizations using the schools included. Scouts. Cubs. Guides and Brownies. pol- itical groups. church groups. field naturalists mental health‘ associations. cancer society. etc. The schools were also used for such things as dance and piano recitals. concerts of \ari- nus kinds. cooking schools and for showing children‘s films. The schools‘ facilities were used for various types of sports. rugger. badminton. baseball. basketball, by other than school groups.
