Our servic- es are staffed by capable per- sonnel giving a high standard of service to our people." Mr. Perkins stated that sug~ gestions for change will demand careful study and consideration mond Hill. he reported. “Counâ€" cil is not one individual. but the majority deciding and acting as a body. One man's vote is small but can be powerful," he told the ratepayers. “Your pres- ence here shows you are con- cerned. I. too, am concerned, for my family. for my custom- ers. for my town and its citi- Zens." Mr. Perkins stated that sug- gestions for change will demand careful study and consideration of every man on council. He invited ratepayers to make in- quiries about town business. WARD I COUNCILLOR IVAN MANSBRIDGE A resume of two years of acâ€" complishment in Ward I was given by Councillor Ivan Mans- bridge, completing his first term. Paving of Elgin Mills had cleared up a dust and dirt nuisance in homes in the vicin- ity as well as saving on damage to cars. A vast improvement in the entrance to Beverley Acres School has been achieved. “I pressed for this work," Mr. Mansbridge stated. He reported Skopit and Cros- by Parks are now beginning to take shape, with trees planted and benches installed and con- crete bases for slides and swings in the discussion stage. He was pleased to report there would be a skating rink in Skopit Park this year. Mr. Mansbridge Went on to report a long overdue start made on repaving roads in the ward, and although not agree- ing that the answer to the ditch problem has been found and “never will be until storm sew- ers and curbs are installedâ€, claimed that the work done this year has been a decided im- provement. He has also pressed for a water pipeline and a sewer line to the lake, with removal from the town of potential dangers. “The OWRC has to be made to realize that our present situa- tion is untenable. You cannot encourage housing programs until you have the services to provide for houses and apart- ments. Any leeway in our present sewage disposal system must be saved for industrial de- velopment north of Elgin Mills to benefit the taxpayers and make possible many things needed in town." ‘ MORGAN DAVIS 1. He promised to work in the best interests of all. ERIC GEORGE Eric George stated he wants a more direct voice in the ex- penditure of his tax dollar and feels he will be a much better representative than either of the two other candidates. He promised to work to provide storm sewers in Beverley Acres and provide sidewalks in vicin- ity of schools. He felt the municipality should take full advantage of all subsidies and work with the school board for maximum use of school build- ings, turning them, in effect, into community centres. WARD 2 WILLIAM LAZENBY Morgan Davis made his plea for election as an industrial. business and residential tax- payer. His printing plant and his home are located in Ward Councillor Lazenby stated he was wearing three hats, those of a politician, a pharmacist and a parent. His political symbol was the tax dollar, given by each taxpayer who expects re- turns for his money. Expendi- ture of this dollar is controlled to the tearing point in Rich- Election For Councillor, Trustee, Hydro Commissionerln Janitorial" 884-7456 28 LEVENDALE ROAD 889-3756 WARD 3 LOIS HANCEY Alarmed by an awareness of a feeling of hopelessness on the part of the public with govern- ment and a “can‘t help atti- tude". Mrs. Hancey based her remarks on citizenship and civic responsibility. Recalling that elected officials must subscribe to various oaths and declara- tions, the councillor suggested that the citizen and voter should state his allegiance to his community and make declar- ation of his intention to aid and support his council and fellow electors. to give him a sense of commitment. “If we deny responsibility by apathy and say, ‘What differ- ence will my vote make?‘, then we deny ourselves and our des- cendants the right of making decisions." Mrs. Hancey charg- ed. “A good citizen is a booster. not a critic. with a sense of duty inspired by justice and mor- ality." She also referred to amalga- mation or restructuring of mu- nicipal government, already set in motion by the new county boards of education. “The econ- omic and financial structure must be sound and the ability of the citizens to pay, must be de~ termined.†WARD 4 JOHN MacDIARMID M-r. MacDiarmid is completing three years as councillor and has served three years as a member of planning board. He believes a tough financial policy is very necessary but warned that it is only as good as the people who apply it. “We have two choices. We can control our spending or increase our in- come," he stated. By creating new assessment, preferably industrial and commercial. As chairman of the industrial committee I am happy to re- port completion of annexation. Richmond Hill now has the material to create new assess- ment from land controlled in orderly fashion in line with services we are allowed to de~ velop." ‘ ‘ PUBLIC SCHOOL TRUSTEES MILLS.
