Metro Now Seeking 3 Pickering Dumps Local politicians and resi- dents generally will watch with interest upcoming attempts by Metro to secure waste disposal sites in Pickering Township. Metro Works Commissioner Ross Clark this week was seek- ing authority to acquire three sa-nd pits in that township. One pit of 350 acres is at Concession 3 and Liverpool Road and is said to be capable of handling almost four million tons of refuse. A 320-acre site at Concession 5 and Brock Road would handle more than three million tons and the third site. 387 acres at Concession 5 and Church Street is thought capable of holding better than four million tons of garbage. Metro Works Department is filling a ZOO-acre site at Beare Road ,in Scarboro, transporting industrial waste to an Etobicoke site and dumping incinerator ash at another site. The South Thackeray site in Vaughan Township on the bot- der of Etobicoke is not yet in operation pending a municipal board hearing of objections from Etobicoke landowners, but it is expected to be operative this year.
