WILLIAM JOHN WILSON Dr. and Mrs. A. F. Binning- ton are Spending the summer at Hartman near Mount Albert. at their converted church “cum” home there. Last week Mary and Jack Rodick accompanied by Mrs. S. J. English paid them a visit and found them both well. Dr. Binnington will preach dur- ing the summer and two en- gagements are at Markham Vil- lage and Stouffville. Pigs is pigs and it appears they will stay that way in spite of their effect on Markham Vil- lage noses. ' At a recent meeting of Mark- ham Township Council a- peti- tion bearing a long list of vil- lage names was presented, pro- testing odors from a piggery operated just outside the village limits by Howard J arick, Lot 14, Concession 8 near 16th Avenue. Clerk Harry Crisp advised however. that the operation is a legitimate one in an agricultural zone and does not contravene any township bylaws. The barn on the property is well within the prescribed setbacks, he said, 400 feet from the road and 100 feet from the lot line. The township had, however, refused permission when the owner had applied for a build- ing permit in order to extend the operation, Mr. Crisp advis- ed. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Baldwin who were formerly of this neighborhood but are now liv- ing at Stouffvilie, are preparing for their diamond wedding an- niversary August 5. Mrs. Bald- win is baking a cake in prepara- tion, and friends are asked to circle the date. Church News Deputy-reeve S. J. Gadsby suggested that the smell could be from garbage on which some pigs are fed but villagers denied this. “It's not garbage, it’s pigs." they insisted. Summer Breezes Waft Piggy Odor Reeve Stewart Rumble sug- gested that the Department of Agriculture might possibly be able to‘ help out with the prob- lem. In the meantime, the clerk was instructed to notify the York County Health Unit and ask for a report on the situation.
